I'm trying to get some advice on shuttle service from airport to hotels, then bullet train from rome to florence and on to Venice. do I need to get passes for the trains in advance. Can I wing it. What is the cheapest shuttle service to and from airports. Help anyone.

Are you flying from Paris to Rome? If so, which airport? One Rome airport is served by train or shuttle bus, the other airport only shuttle bus.
You don't need a train pass. You can look at schedules and buy tickets for Italian trains on Trenitalia (no more than 120 days advance). Fast trains (AV/ES) run at least hourly on these routes.

If you are arriving in Venice at Santa Lucia Station, you would walk out the front doors, then take the vaporetto at Ferrovia Stop at Scalzi Bridge to a stop near your hotel. You can buy a ticket at the kiosks at the Grand Canal in front of the train station.
What hotel are you staying at in Venice?
If we know, we can tell you what stop to get off at.

Here are the directions to your hotel in Venice from the hotel's own website:
TRANSFERS BY PUBLIC WATER-buses lines 4.1, 2, N(Via Giudecca), 5.1 and 6
Transfer time approximately 20 minutes.
For the public water buses line see www.actv.it Cost € 7.00 one way.
You can take the public Boat Line 41, 2 or N via Giudecca, 51 and 61 (61 only from Piazzale Roma).
If you get on Line 4.1 the closest stop to the Hotel is Palanca, please note that from the boat stop to the Hotel it is 10 minutes walking distance, it may be uncomfortable if you are carrying heavy luggage.
If you get on Line 2 or N via Giudecca, the closest stop to the Hotel is Palanca. If you have heavy luggage, we kindly suggest you to stop at Zattere, where you can take our complimentary shuttle boat, which stops directly in front of the Hotel. The shuttle boat pier is located just close to the vaporetto stop. For the timetable, see our website : www.molinostuckyhilton.com at the section transportation “ Shuttle Boat Service ”.
If you get on Line 5.1 or 6, get off in Zattere, and take from there our complimentary shuttle boat. For the timetable, see our website : www.molinostuckyhilton.com at the section transportation “ Shuttle Boat Service ”.

I know the Hilton Molino Stucky. It is a red-brick building that you can see if you are standing on the Zatere.
ellen, can't the OP take Line 2 from Ferrovia and get off at Basilio on the Zatere and take the Hilton Shuttle across the canal to the hotel?

Just a word or warning, the for the Molino Stucky changes locations at some point during the night (or it did several years ago), see if you can figure that out before you get stuck looking everywhere for the shuttle in the dark. We enjoyed the hotel, it is very nice, but not much to do in the immediate area.
