Paris restaurantes - recos PLEASE!!

I have 5 nights in Paris, and am looking for some feedback and/or restaurant recommendations. We are staying in St. Germain des Pres, but are willing to explore outside that neighbourhood (although for the first night I think we should stick close by because of jet lag). I should also add that we are pretty open to trying new things. I am happy to go for 1 or 2 "nicer" dinners, but enjoy more ambience than sitting in a stuffy restaurant.

I have made the following reservations, but welcome your thoughts as they can all be changed!

Alcazar - rue Mazarine (6e)

Reed (based on recommendations I have read on this site)

Le Christine

Market

Le Cinq (although am now re-thinking because I have heard the prices are astomonomical, as opposed to just "expensive")

I have also been trying to contact Au Bon Accueil, but their email address keeps bouncing back.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

There are a tremendous amount of restaurants in that area.

Here is the Gayot listing and reviews for local restaurants.

YMMV.

Some of our favoarites in the 6th are Ze Kitchen Gallerie (don't be put off by the name, the fusion cuisine is fabulous), Fish (maybe a good place for your first night) and L'Epi Dupin.

If you go to Le Cinq for lunch, they have a 3 course prix fixe menu (with many extras). I think it's 95 euros now and available 7 days a week.

I think Kei and Sola are relative bargains for higher end dining considering the quality of the food. I also like La Table d'Aki very much. The setting is very casual and they offer a 5 course in the evening for 58 euros (it's all seafood though).

In your neighborhood, I like Little Breizh for crepes.

I have 2 trip reports and all of the restaurants I mention above plus many others are described in them:

If you wou;ld like to try something different, I recommend le 404 in the 4th. The food is North African/Morroican. The tagines are excellent. Reservations are required:

Just got back on Wednesday and I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Pottoka on rue de l'exposition. Only has about 40 seats so you'll want to reserve. We also ate at Les Cocottes which has always been a favorite but I have to say we preferred Pottoka this trip. Wonderful food and very attentive, friendly service.

You may want to do some reading on John Talbott's Paris website (http://johntalbottsparis.typepad.com/) as it has many very helpful reviews, organized by arrondissement. Also, I think Paris by Mouth does a really nice job of covering the restaurant scene http://parisbymouth.com/. Hope that helps!

Hi, we live in 1st arrondissement and I've blogged on our "local" restaurants plus others far afield: http://www.aussieinfrance.com/restaurants/

Thank you! I have been looking on all the blogs too. So, thank you for those suggestions as well.

I've now also made reservations at Ze Kitchen Gallerie, La Societe and Le Table D'Aki.

I have heard that Spring is also very good - how would that fit in/compare to the others?

Any thoughts on the restaurants I have already booked?

I know I'm the contrarian here, but I tried Catherine Reed's restaurant last week and was not crazy about it. My appetizer and entree were both way too salty. There were a few other issues too. I felt bad for taking my husband there on his birthday. He's not fussy, and of course didn't mind, but I wish I had made another choice. To each his own, I guess.

I would highly, highly recommend Chez Toinette in Montmartre. It is fantastic authentic French food and wine at not too unreasonable prices.

I enjoyed Sorza in Ile de la cite; walking distance from the 6th I believe. THey had an early prix fixe menu for 17 or 20 euros, 3 course meal that was great. We loved their parmesan rissotto.

Spring was awfully good a couple of years ago but we haven't been since. It is probably more expensive than the ones you have booked and, it used to be hard to get a reservation there.

We love Ze Kitchen Gallerie.

Thank you all for your tips and recommendations. I have just returned from my AMAZING trip to Paris! Here are my thoughts about the restaurants we ended up choosing:

1st night - We had a reservation at Alcazar in the 6th. We walked over at 8 and the restaurant was empty. and I mean empty - we would have been the only ones and it's a big restaurant. We didn't feel comfortable staying, so we thought we would walk around for half an hour and then try again because we had heard great things about the restaurant. We ended up coming across Fish so we went in to check it out. We got the last table and had a GREAT dinner. We loved the food, the ambiance, everything. Just fantastic. Alcazar who?

2nd night - we went to Reed. The food was good, and we really enjoyed it. We shared the cornish hen and the osso bucco with the tomato pizza and foie gras to start. My only criticism is that it was very slow. Our reservation was for 8:30 and we didn't leave until almost 11 - and we didn't even have dessert.

3rd night - we went to Le Christine. It is a smaller bistro and it was fantastic. I had the tomato and mozzerella appetizer. My mom had the salad nicoise. Both good. We then shared the fish and the veal chop. Both were excellent. We didn't try the delicious looking desserts in favour of some ice cream around the corner.

4th night - Market. We both really enjoyed Market. Food was delicious and a very nice restaurant without being too stuffy. We shared the beet salad (amazing!) and the tuna pizza to start and then shared the chicken (good, but not out of this world) and the white fish (really good).

5th night - We had a reservation at Ze Kitchen Gallery and ended up cancelling in favour of Semilla. Semilla was good - interesting food and good ambiance. We shared the charcuterie, risotto, sea bass, and another fish dish. Although the food was good, it was our least favourite of the places we went. Truth be told, I'm a little bit sorry we didn't end up at Ze Kitchen. But, what can you do? Next time.

So, thank you again to everyone who helped me plan. I truly appreciate it!
