Nice article in the SF Sunday Chronicle this morning on the Paris Passages. Several great photos. Someone in Fodor's mentioned that this would be a great way to spend a rainy day in Paris, and it sure looks like it.

Just in case any other SF Bay Area residents would be interested and might have missed this...has a nice bit of history as to why they were created as well.

The passages are quite lovely and they are all unique. Tracking them down is a fun way to spend part of a day.

Thanks, Stu! You're always on the ball. Was just reading another post of yours in Italy forum on Visa chip card. Where did you find one? We have Schwab debit for ATMs (no fees) and Capital One Visa for no foreign transaction fees, but have struck out for the chip and pin. We tried Andrews (?) but didn't look right for us.

It is a chip & signature - not pin. Zero fees. BofA. It's called a Travel Card.

I always visit them whenever in Paris, which is not often enough. They are beautiful, elegant and a nice wandering stroll through Paris to find.

kja, thanks for the nice link to Degas' incredibly detailed walk. It's amazing how great people are to go to such lengths to document and help others on this forum.

Kerouac, what amazing photos! Loved them and it give us such a preview of which we might want to visit. Our French teacher in class this morning said she had heard of a walk you could sign up for(going to research now) that concentrated just on the Passages.

Lots of these seem like great rainy day walking opportunities!

kerouac is still around degas I think may have gone to his beyond though not sure but his/her threads of Parisian Passages is a Fodor's classic as are all of Kerouac's many photo threads!

Am grateful for Kerouac's photos, which are gorgeous. If Degas is truly gone he must be missed by everyone on the Forum...I have seen several of his walks and was amazed by the details and the amount of time it took to prepare so that others might enjoy. The Paris Passages post was from 2006 and clicking on his name didn't get a result.
