Paris-Orly to CDG

We are arriving in Paris (Orly) on a Sunday afternoon at 1700. We fly out of CDG on Monday morning at 11:00. I need an area to stay that is convenient for public transportation and preferably on the CDG side. We are only there for the one evening so we would like to drop our luggage and head into the city for a little exploring. Thank you for any suggestions!

There are several ways you could approach your situation.

1. Take le Bus Direct to CDG, 21€ each, and stay at an hotel at CDG of which there are a number. Next take the RER into Paris 10€ each person/each way, allowing one hour each direction.

2. Take a taxi from ORY to a hotel in Paris 30€/35€ and stay in Paris. The next morning, take the RER to CDG 10€. Be at the airport 3 hours before your scheduled departure for transatlantic flights, 2 hours elsewhere.

Either way, your time for exploring will be very limited.

It would be convenient to be near Gare du Nord on the Right Bank. The RER train goes to CDG from there, and if you don't want to take public transporation, being in the location will still be a quicker drive than if you were somewhere on the Left Bank.

For one night, I just pick a decent-looking 2-3* hotel within a block or so of the train station/metro stop when I do things like that. There are plenty around Gare du Nord.

You won't be able to really do anything Sunday evening but maybe have dinner, anyway. If you want to walk around and see things in addition, I might recommend you find a hotel near the Luxembourg RER stop on the Left Bank -- IF you intend to use the RER to get to CDG. Easy to stroll around the Latin Qtr and down to the Seine, see Notre Dame, etc. from there. There are lots of hotels around there (I would prefer that location to the St Michel/Notre Dame RER stop mainly for noise reasons).

YOu can take the RER from Orly into Paris to one of those stops, also, although it's not quite as straightforward as taking it to CDG (there is some shuttle train or something at Orly, haven't done it, until you get to the RER station).

I respectfully disagree with above.
IF you are basically one night in Paris, at least choose a neighbourhood that is appealing.

I landed on tuesday at Orly at around 7 pm and spent the night as described in this trip report close to Luxembourg Gardens. RER B is the same line that goes to CDG, just about 10 min further away.

I'm not sure what you are disagreeing with. I suggested the Luxembourg stop which happens to be right next to Luxembourg Gardens.

Other than that, I gather you are saying you find the 10th arrondisement unappealing and that people will be spending time around their hotel. I'm not sure if that's what you are saying.
