Paris or Prague in August

I will be returning from a trip to Tanzania via Amsterdam and was thinking of spending a few days in either Paris or Prague before returning home. Any suggestions on which city would be best to visit in August, in terms of expense, crowds and convenience to get to and from Amsterdam, would be appreciated.

Hi

I think there is more to see and do in Paris compared to Prague. You can get to Paris by train (e.g. Thalys). But I guess it can be crowded at this time but isn't Paris always crowded?

Here is my trip report from Paris http://gardkarlsen.com/Paris_France.htm . My wife and I went to Paris for a week in April this year.

Regards

Paris would certainly be easier to get to from A-dam by rail than would Prague. You could fly on a budget carrier (SkyEurope) between AMS and Prague but only on certain days of the week depending on the time of year.

Prague has become much more popular than it used to be but is a wonderful city, especially if you like being in a place which still has a medieval feel (less the cars and trams) and it might be less expensive than Paris depending on where you stay.

Overall I think you'd find much more to see and do in Paris, especially if you haven't been there in the past.

Hi R,

If you are flying into AMS, I suggest Paris.

Prague will be so chokkablok with tourists, and muggy, I agree that Paris is better. The locals have all taken off, all of France takes their summer vacations in August and leave Paris to the tourists - things are open, no worries, except some smaller family businesses etc. So, yes, Paris in a heartbeat.
