So, how many visits does this make – 12? 13? 14? Whatever the total, it’s not large compared to some Fodorites, but it’s big enough so that our visits take on a different character. So, less touring of the iconic sites of the city, and more rambling in other areas, or occasionally doing nothing at all, and just plunking ourselves down, and see what of the city comes to us. Our touring has been informed this trip by two excellent guides: Gilles Desmons’ “Walking Paris,” which we continue to work our way through; and Annabel Simms’ “An Hour From Paris,” which we used for the first time to see Provins. You sound exactly like us! I was trying to figure out how many times we've been to Paris by counting various hotels but stopped at 18 because I can't recall how many times we stayed at the Danube!
We have nothing big planned for this trip tomorrow except the big Monet exhibit and several dinners with friends. The rest of the time we'll just BE there. Well we are going to Chateau de Monte Christo, near St Germaine en Laye with Michael Osman. My other 2 friends haven't been to St Germain yet but it will be a return visit for us. There's lots to see there so we'll enjoy revisiting it.
And like me too! 10-11 visits, still working on that pesky, never shrinking, site seeing list
I'm in that zone of "should I, can I, what would it cost, relatives sad if no gifts at xmas" and working on an updated restaurants spreadsheet.

I stayed at the Danube..way back when, too!! I cannot count the trips, either..I get lost in counting.
Do have an enjoyable trip.
I am leaving 10/31 and will be there til 12/4. I have many people coming and going, so may be doing some tourist things that I do not normally do...which is OK!
I am in the process of making many reservations now. I have had my 3 (yes, 3)dinner reservations for Spring for awhile now. I have different guests to take there. Told Daniel he better be changing the menu for me!!

I like your style of travel as that's what we like to do as well -- plunking down and letting the city show herself to us. We are going on trip #3 for Christmas and New Year's. With our love of the city I know there will be many, many more over the coming years. I'm impressed with the number of visits for some of you.

I loved your photos, SemiMike, and most particularly those that I have not already seen 1000 times, to wit the trip on the Marne (which I have not done yet) and your trip to Provins.
And I liked the fact that you came and ate on my street in the 18th, just a few steps from my apartment.
SemiMike, I enjoyed your photos very much. I too was on my 12th or 13th trip at the same time you were there, and in many of the same places. I made some collages of my photos on Kodak but don't know how to post them on Fodors...could you tell me?

Provins looks quite nice, similar to Compiègne.
Your travel/photo log is so inspirational. We are planning our first Paris trip for Sept. 2011 and I have read soooooo many trip reports. I hope someday to be able to say I have been to Paris so many times I have lost count. Thanks again for a wonderful walk through Paris. I feel like I've already been there.
