Paris on a Sunday

I'm interested in visiting some sights in Paris, I've been to the city before and have seen the main sights. I will be there in February.

The sights of interest on this visit are:-

Foundation Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton, flagship store

Grand Palais (from outside)

Hotel de Ville (from outside)

Rue Montorgueil

Rue Moufletard

Carrefour de Buci

Laurent Dubois Cheese store

A trip to the Eiffel Tower to see the new exhibits.

Moulin Rouge.

I arrive in Paris at 4.15 pm on Saturday and have reservations at La Tour d'Argent at 8 pm. I'm not sure which of the sights I can see on Saturday. I haven't booked tickets for the Moulin ROuge but I thinking of booking the 11 pm show on Saturday.

Besides the cheese store, I have no desire to go shopping. I would like to sightsee on Rue Montorgueil and Rue Moufletard but don't know how to include them on the itinerary.

The Opera has tickets available for a guided tour at 11 am. If I book that, the only way to visit Laurent Dubouis is first thing in the morning when it opens at 8.30. Here's my rough draft for the day.....

8.30 am, visit Laurent Dubouis at 47 Ter Boulevard Saint-Germain

Assuming I leave the cheese store by 9.30 am or so, is there anytime to visit a sight before the 11 am Opera tour.

11 am Opera Tour, lasts until 12.20 pm

Carrefour de BUci

Louis Vuitton, flagship store, browse the inside if lines aren't too long.

Grand Palais (from outside)

Hotel de Ville (from outside)

Eifel Tower for sunset (should I book these tickets in advance?)

Foundation Louis Vuitton.

How does this look?

Hello Teadriker.
Being in Paris in February, ays will be very short.

So I would skip the fondation Louis Vuitton (simply because I have been to Paris dozens of times and never been there) and I would go to rue Mouffetard or Montorgueil in the evening (brightly lit ans ome good restaurants). I prefer rue Mouffetard where I have found some good restaurants in the neighbourhood.

The rest seems ok to me - I would never go to a cheese shop, but that is me, maybe it holds an appeal from people from Canada.

I don't like either the Moulin Rouge, but if you go alk he street (Lepic) and see the sacré coeur too.

Are you going on Saturday or Sunday?

Carrefour de Buci is just an intersection with a bunch of very touristy cafes there. Not sure it's worth going out of your way for. It's noisy and there are cars going right by the outdoor tables - not very pleasant.

Both rue Montorgueil and rue Mouffetard are market streets - merchants typically close during lunch hours from 1 PM to about 4:30 PM and re-open around 5 PM until about 7:30 PM.
Some shops will remain open, but the outdoor stands normally will close during these times.

You won't be anywhere near rue Montorgueil until you finish the tour of the Opera Garnier, in which case, most of the shops will probably be closed.
You can walk to rue Mouffetard in about 15 minutes from Laurent Dubois.

Thank you for the replies.

I arrive on a Saturday at 4 pm and will fly out on Monday morning. So, my only full day for sightseeing is Sunday.

One more question, which location of Laduree is worth a quick stop somewhere along the itinerary?

Thanks.

I would not try to dine at 8 and get to a cabaret across the city by 11.

I missed where you are staying. If on the Left Bank, I would go to the Marché Biologique on Raspail, if on the Right, to the Richard Lenoir rather than the ones you propose, though it would be a challenge to go to any of them AND the Opera tour AND the cheese.

Choices, choices.

I would not recommend the Raspail biologic market as a trip. If you aren't buying food, what's the point. And Given you are ony there one day, I'm sure you aren't stocking up on groceries. That isn't a market that sells anything else. The Richard Lenoir one would be a better substitute. Now I presume wanting to see Rue Mouffetard (notice spelling) is because it is an historic street and is not, in fact, just a roving market like Richard Lenoir or many others. It is both, actually, a market street and there is a roving market at the bottom on some days (and at nearby metro Monge some days). Montogueil is also a market street, so I presume that is the goal.

I had an apt on it and nearby a couple times, it is a nice neighborhood and there is more to it than buying food. IN fact, there are some bars where locals hang out, (place Contrescarpe for younger ones). But Rue Mouffetard is completely closed on Sunday afternoon and Monday. YOu'd have to visit it Saturday afternoon or early evening before your dinner, that's the only time, but it may not work in your schedule. You could see it if you chose a hotel right near it, then you could see it before your dinner plans, after checking in. The Monge roving food market is open Sunday mornings and goes until early afternoon.

I'm okay if I skip Rue Montorgueil and Rue Mouffetard.

I really do not want to skip the Foundation Louis Vuitton.

Any suggestions how to organize the sights and if my original plan is possible.

Also, do I need to book the Eiffel Tower tickets in advance?

I will be staying at Arty Paris, 62 Rue des Morillons, 75015 Paris, France

Your best bet for organizing the sights is to buy and study a map of Paris.

If you book a show at Paradis Latin instead of Moulin Rouge: it's just around the corner from Tour Argent so in that case, it would be far easier to get there. Also, the shows are better, less touristy, more sophisticated and in a nicer setting.

Moulin Rouge is incredibly overrated and sure to disappoint

Rue Mouffetard is not far from Tour d'Argent. If you must, keep that, and have drinks before dinner.

Thanks, Pardis Latin won't work as the show starts at 9.30 pm.

I understand the Eiffel Tower was recently renovated and has some interesting displays in a museum. I'd read this in a recent travel article on my trip last fall.

Can fodorites who know their way around Paris please help me fill in the blanks on the sightseeing itinerary.

I've booked a tour at the Opera at 11 am and a ticket to the Eiffel Tower for 5 pm as that should allow me to be there for sunset.

THank you.

Hi planningtravel - here's my suggestion for how to fill the time between the end of the tour of the Palais Garnier at 12.20 and your scheduled arrival at the Eiffel Tower at 5pm.

This is purely how I would do it, based on the things on your list and the time available.

Personally, I'd start with a swift, sit-down lunch somewhere to fuel myself for the hectic afternoon, but you could of course grab something to eat on the go (possibly a baguette and a half-bottle of red to accompany your purchases from Laurent Dubois) which would save a little time...

Anyhoo, from the Palais Garnier I'd walk to the Grand Palais and have a quick look at the outside.

Next I'd head over on foot to the Louis Vuitton shop.

I'm suggesting walking to these places as the time you'd save by taking public transport would be as good as negligible. I think that even walking at a decent clip, this should take you until at least 2pm.

From the Louis Vuitton shop, I'd get the metro over to the Fondation Louis Vuitton, where I presume you'll want to spend some time. Allowing an hour or so to view the exhibits (and making sure it doesn't feel like you're yomping through Paris, rather than sightseeing) this leaves you enough time for the roughly half an hour metro ride back to the Eiffel Tower.

There are a few Ladurée locations along this route, one near the Palais Royal, another on the Champs Elysees, so depending on which route you take, you should be able to squeeze one of them in.

It sounds like a busy, but do-able day if you omit a couple of things.

Hope this helps and enjoy your trip!
