Hi Joan! I'm jumping onto this thread early to keep up with your adventures!
I do have my reservations and will arrive just ahead of our annual Thanksgiving celebration at Violon d'Ingres. If you happen to be in Paris at that time let me know and perhaps you can join us. We have a nice 'select' group of Parisians, Americans and whatever!
I have local friends who wanted to be in Paris when I was there, so they will be arriving and staying for the same dates. They have booked their apartment.
I will be spending at least a few days in London while there on this trip. I also plan to return to Paris after first of year for a couple months and will most likely spend some time in London, too.
My two good Paris friends, Michael and Florent are coming here as my house guests in mid August.Weekender will be flying in for a few days along with Denise and Chaz from ATL to share in the fun. Asheville may never be the same! Making many plans for their visit.
I am also thinking of Paris. Time goes by quickly and all will be here before I know it! Hope to see some of youi in Paris!
a bientot,
Joan
Hi Marcy,
Wish you and your mom would think about Paris for Thanksgiving. Too bad you will not be able to get with us in August, too. Another time!
Oh Joan...you know us, we are always thinking of Paris, and Rome and...
Maybe next time!
Giving serious thoughts to an adventure to Sicily in November, but only thinking about it right now, nothing firm yet.
Wish we were available to visit in August.
Hi ladies...I am so excited about Rome, but am starting to miss Paris! I am still hoping that I win the lottery so I can also go back to Paris this year! I am always envious of Joan's extended time in Paris!
We are moving on!
Florent and Michael arrived from Paris and were my houseguests last month and Chaz and Denise came for a long weekend.
We had good fun!!
Now getting into some planning for Paris with arrival for Mick and Jonnie taking same flight with me and will arrive on Nov 20 and of course we have our annual 'Event' for Thanksgiving at Violon d'Ingres! Do not have complete list of elite in attendance at the moment!!
We have made plans to go to Reims on Dec 8 and spend the night. 5 of us. Have hotel reservations and with the BIG Christmas market in full swing we have also made dining reservations at La Vigneraie for Sat. evening.Looks like a good spot. Sounds like fun!
a bientot..
Joan
This is killing me and I love Reims!
Hi Denise,
Are you familiar with that restaurant...look at their website..looks like our kind of place.
Florent was so funny..he made the reservations for 5 from Asheville!!
He made the hotel reservations, too...the Hotel de la Paix...restaurant is nearby..or same street anyway...Reims is supposed to be of the bigger Xmas Market places..not like Alsace, of course.
Maybe you and Chaz could come after 1st of year and we all take TGV to my friends places in Riquewihr..this is their website: http://i-love-riquewihr.com/pt_9.html lovely places and good, good friends..they were Asheville houseguests a few years ago..we could have fun and they would show us a good time...Strasbourg, too...
I am packed for Paris..only taking that small orange bag and my laptop carry-on..have more than enough...
a bientot...
Joan
Good to see you posting again.
Envy your trips.
Your trips sound wonderful, as always.
And how about some pictures of you and the Frenchmen in Asheville?
Oh Paris and Christmas markets--two of my favorite things. I should not be jealous as I'll be in London in just a few weeks with a jaunt to Bruges but Paris . . . sigh. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I will look forward to your trip report.
Signing in so I can follow your journey.

I have spent most of the day online/on the phone with Delta and then Air France. I hate Delta!
I have my after first of year flights now. I will arrive in Paris Jan 19 and I will depart Paris Mar 13!
Need to find holiday period so Florent and Michael can go to Riquewihr with me...........
a bientot..
Joan
I've been dealing with Delta all day, too. Going to Paris for 2 weeks in December (already booked)and Provence in June....those June tickets are REALLY costly! My husband and I are on separate tickets as I'm staying in Paris after Provence longer. I went on line, booked his ticket and, when I went to book mine, the price had increased! We are still going but have never spent this much to go to France.
Hi Judy..they are all a pain. I have had my Nov/Dec tickets for some time...then you get your seats and at the last minute they decide to change planes and your seats mean nothing!
It is one reason (if you can) to stay longer..the flights won't come around so fast!
a bientot..
Joan
I know. We cannot afford business class but do usually book economy comfort on Delta....really makes a difference. We don't stay as long as you do but usually 2-4 weeks, at least.
Great picture taken in Asheville; It's good to see you and the folks I met in '11!
Will never forget how hot it got that week; who'd have thought it would hit 80 in April in Paris?
Leaving next month on Delta, hope nothing gets changed because I have economy comfort seats which they've already tinkered with several months ago.
Looking forward to another wonder report from you, Joan. I already booked Reed for dinner - can't wait to try it!
~Roberta
Roberta ,
What date for Reed, I will drop a note to Catherine. Did you put Casse Noix on your list?? I think you will like it..if you can fit it in!
I am just working on sending my friends, who will be joining me for the 11/19 - 12/15 trip, to Riquewihr for a few days. I have to go to London for a few days and that might be a good time for them to go. Easy TGV and my shuttle people will take good care of them to/from Gare d'Est...
I will go when back after first of year...
a bientot..
Joan
Thanks, Joan. I emailed Catherine last night and she already confirmed my reservation request.
You know my time is always so limited in Paris. Casse Noix seems like a great choice but closed on Sundays. I already have reservations at Le Souffle and spending the day in London on a Saturday. I believe Cafe Constant is open on Sundays, may have to return.
Joan, is Reed's email address catherine.reed@wanado.fr? The reservation request I sent came back as undeliverable. We'll be in Paris the end of Sept. I'm delighted you will be back. I always enjoy reading your reports.
Brit:
It's "wanadoo"
In Rome and love it is far! Will have to see about France after New Years! Thanks again for the well wishes.
Thanks, Weekender. I'll write again.
catherine.reed@wanadoo.fr
The wanadoo is with two oo's
Chatted with Catherine this past week. Not open for lunch..only dinner....I will be seeing her before I know it..time has a way of going by fast! Mid Nov will be here before I know it.
Better drop Catherine Constant a note soon re Thanksgiving headcount..she knows we will be there..just headcount!
I think the Nov/Dec trip is going to go by fast..too short! Jan/Mar will be better. Looking forward to both.
Denise and Chaz will enjoy Rome....

We may have an additon to our T/G group. Waterdog is checking out things now for a trip. I did tell them about a good spot, at this late date. Laidback had a last minute cancellation due to an elevator that died and thought of a great place that I had asked them to previeew a couple yers ago. It happended to be empty and they stayed therre..they really liked it and the neightborhood..In 16th just across the Seine from 'our' part of the 7th. I checked it for T/G and it appears available so have told Waterdog...who know, they may join us..hope so..nice people...they can join our group!!
Another friend will be there and gone just ahead of my arrival..we have met for the last 2-3 years and had fun dining together. I have just given her some dining spots.
a bientot..
Joan
Joan - I am here now and roasting as the temp has benn over 30 Celsius since we arrived! Got in touch with Frederic and we will have our Sunday lunch at l'Obe on the 16th! They will not close till the end of December.
went to Chez Jenny today with some friends (eight chattering women - Tom bowed out!!) Then stopped by Jacques Genin - was too hot to enjoy those beautiful pastries but bought some mendiants for munching later. I find that he makes the lightest ones.
I think we will get together with The Laidbacks when they get back from the seaside! Lucky them to miss this heat wave.
enjoy your planning and I will follow your adventures. I always live vicariously reading your trip reports!
Bisous,
Lilia
Hi Joan,
It is so nice to see you back. I love reading about and learning from your Paris adventures.
I had a wonderful dinner at Reed earlier this year and last year dined
solo at the Les Ambassadeurs brunch because of your encouragement.
Look forward to your new posts. Thanks.
Hi Lilia..
Glad you arrived!! I bet Tom bowed out!
So good to hear that l'Obe will not close until end of Dec. Please tell Frederic that I will be coming and will be there maybe Dec 2 or Dec 9. Will contact the boys and see what sounds good.
How was Jenny?? Need to go to Marcom Polo in 6th..Phl, Denise and Chaz all like..never been.
Have a great time!!! Keep me posted on some finds!!
a bientot..
Joan
I do love Marco Polo when I have had my fill of French fare, especially in summer.
Rome is warm but no bad....spectacular so far? Sounds like Thanksgiving is shaping up .
It looks like waterdog (both) will be joining us in Paris for Thanksgiving. They are working on a Paris Perfect apartment now.
That would be great! We will introduce them to our very special evening at Violon d'Ingres! We can also introduce them to some other great places during their stay.

Joan
Putting together a day in Toulouse. Can take an early morning EasyJet from Orly..have breakfast at Le Bebent, sight see - have lunch at Le Bebent, sight see more and take late afternoon flight back to Orly.
I have been talking with Catherine about it. I'm sure she would set up someething great for us at Le Bebent. Might be fun.
Caherine ordered and then sent to me the tourist info brochure with the different places to see..like 4 do it yourself tours.

Joan
I am dying...I loved Rome but will miss Paris. I am absolutely getting killed at work and can't think of taking any time off (and don't have the money anyway, which I find very inconvenient).
I look forward to living vicariously through you, once again! Glad waterdog will make Thanksgiving....Chaz has plans for me ti be decorating the house for Christmas during TG. Paris would be more fun, especially with Flo and Mika!
Hi Denise,
Wish you and Chaz would be there to join us. Waterdog will not make it this year.
The Toulouse trip sounds fun. Hope we can put it together. Catherine has been most helpful.
F&M are on a budget. M has his own business now and is back in school to cpmplete his French CPA..Also their 75% tax is not helpful! F says those who voted for the nut are now not admitting they voted for him. He asked if that sounded familiar!!
I am packed..only 1 small bag and my laptop carry-on! It has extra space in it and will be all that I will take to London for my needed few days there.
Mick is planning side trips, just for him..to Normandy and possibly Strassbourg.
a bientot..
Joan
I know you will have fun. Tell Flo and Mika we are all on a budget! We need to get our house painted and have a few other things to repair around here! Well, the politicians are the same the world over.
I bet Toulouse will be fun...we haven't been there. Sounds like you are all ready to go!
I just booked my flights for Toulouse. Catherine sent me a Toulouse brochure and a recent Fords person just posted some things too..

From August when Florent and Michael were here. Denise and Chaz came to Asheville and local friends Jonnie and Mick. Bilrmote Winery and we then had dinner at the Biltmore Bistro. Fun!

I am watching weather now and beginning some dining reservations etc. I will be doing the Day in Toulouse trip and we are also going to Reims overnight and have hotel, dining and a top Chmoagne house visit along with all the other things about Reims. I was going to London for a couple days, but was able to get out of doing that. Will spend my time in Paris!

Looks like weekender will be in Paris for our 'last supper' on December 14. We had planned on Reed with Catherine, but have given weekender his choice..maybe Violon!
Printed out my Toulouse boarding passes and all set for that along with my Inter-Shuttle trransportation to/from Orly.
I have some of our early dining planned for us and will be sending some e-mails tomorrow.

Joan...

I'm happily following along with you here. Sorry mom and I aren't going to be in Paris this Thanksgiving, Rome has won our hearts and that's where we will be this year. We leave Nov. 21st, seems like we will miss each other at the Atlanta airport by a day, yes?
Sorry I will miss you. I will be departing here via ATL on the 19th.
I am sure that you will be enjoying Rome for Thanksgiving!

I am insanely jealous Joan, weekender and lowcountryislander. Sadly, I only have work travel planned for the next few weeks. I will need to live vicariously through all of you.
Hi,
My friend Sue from Green Bay is in Paris. We missed each other this year. She has been emailing me most every day. This she recently sent re dinner at Violon:
I had a wonderful dinner, I had the scallop salad and then a Bar fish. To end the meal I had grand Marnier souffle with Carmel sauce. I loved every morsel. The fish was the best ever and I've had a lot of fish. I will go back one more time Next week. Alexander was not there when I got there But came later. He recognized me and stopped to talk. T I love it there and see no reason to travel to Schmidt in the night. The food and service is so great that it is hard to find better. I'm all for Christian Constant... more later! I sent it on to Catherine Constant and she wrote that she was translating it for Christian.
She is going to Reed tonight, I think.
I reminded Catherine of my arrival and T/G ..she replied:
Yes don’t worry Alexandre knows all about your Thanksgiving evening, the whole of rue Saint Dominique is on ‘standby’!
Bon voyage
Catherine C
If you have not seen their new website do take a look..really very nice..Le Bibent on it, too.

Now have some reservations going..Thanksiving at Violon, of course. Reed on 24th, Marco Polo on 25th, Souffle on 26th, L'Ami Jean on 27th, 110 Taillevent on 28th, Philippe Excoffier on 29th...I have some other fill-ins and the day in Toulouse on Dec 1 and the weekend in Reims the 8th...Will be doing l'Obe, Cocottes, Cafe, of course..Casse Noix etc, etc....
Giving l'Ami Jean another try..it was so bad acouple years back that I scratched it off list..as did other friends. It has had some changes and Catherine said they went a week ago and it was very good. No online booking so, good friend Sue who has been there and is leaving tomorow made the reservation for me!Getting some things going......
Looking forward to following along with your Paris visit. Its always such fun!
A question re Reed's-how far in advance do we need to make a reservation during the Winter? thanks
Love the restaurant line up...is that Le Souffle on the list? We had such a good time there but I am a total sucker for a souffle.
Hi Denise,
Yes, Le Souffle. I have not been there in years. Thought my friends would enjoy.
RE Reed. I always think nice to email if planning early in trip and always re-confirm all upon arrival. I would do it a week ahead in the winter, perhaps.
I have some others that I have wanted to try and I will do so.
a bientot...
Joan
Packed and ready to go. Cats have a 9:00 appointment. Mick and Jonnie will pick me up about 1:00. We got our boarding passes today. I do have an exit row seat for ATL/CDG.
Both our apartments should be ready early for us. Mine is newly re-done and I will be first in it and Thiers should be ready, too.
I will go to phone store to see if I need to do something with my Paris 'little red phone. It is near Florent's, so will stop by and say hello!
Will do either Cafe or Cocottes for late lunch or early dinner probably. I am almost across the street from them..for me, location, location, location!
Will call Casse Noix upon arrival for Wednesday reservation. Thanksgiving at Violon, of course..and all at my apartment before!
a bientot.....
Joan
Joan...

Wishing you a safe flight and a wonderful time in Paris. Please give my regards to Florent & Michel.
Hi Joan...please give our best to Flo and Mika!! Also, to Mick and Jonnie, hope you all have a great time. Would it be too much, to ask you to give my best to Alexandre, as well!?
I can highly recommend the blue cheese and walnut souffle at Le Souffle and the Grand Marnier (with extra Grand Marnier). Totally charming and we loved it!
Can't wait to hear all about it!
Hi Joan
I hope you arrived safely. I am anxious to hear about your adventures...Enjoy
Looking forward to following u along. Hope to pick up some tips for our visit this winter.
Looking forward to reading about your adventures Joan!! We go back in March and plan to eat at Reed again (we are bringing my sister-in-law who has never been to Paris-she is in for a treat!). Thanks, we wouldn't have known about it if not for your recomendation.

CDG has changed. You now land, walk forever, take a train, walk some more and 1 single esclator that broke down, immigration a zillion people and a few workers...I have never seen such traffic into town...took forever....but, I am in Paris!!
I am unpacked...will only be where I am for 3 nights and will move to another apartment 1 floor below for duration of stay!
Going to my regular pot for breakfast in due course and have some amil to catch up on.
We are going to Casse Noix for lunch today. 1:00.
Weather was good yesterday..was told it had not been.
Mick and I did walk down to Florent's and I had dessert there and we visited with Florent. Went to Orange phone store and my Paris little red phone is now working!!
I will report in later...
a bientot....Joan
Lovely, looking forward to more.
I did get the word from weekender that he IS going to make it to Paris on Friday Dec 14 and will then be able to join in for our farewell dinner at Reed. Florent was in touch with him too and he sent me an email that he has flights and l'Abbaye booked! He is off to Hong Kong tomorrow!!
More after lunch and with photos....

Hi,
What a pleasure to wake up on a very dark, very rainy day and see your wonderful photos.
Thanks so much for posting for us 'stay-at-homes'. Hope to be in Paris next year and
plan to visit some of the places you have dined at. Your reports are very much appreciated.
Thanks again.
Hi Joan
it looks like you are settled in and enjoying everything. I loved your food pictures. I should have gone to Cafe Noix on my last trip. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow.
Joan,
Welcome back to Paris. Here is hoping your trip is a good one. Happy Thanksgiving, wish we were there to join you all. Maybe next year.
Hi Lloyd and JoAnn,
I spent a couple nights next door to the Sancerre while this one was being finished wwhich is the floor below and beneath the Sancerre. Still some finishing to do for it.
Wish you were here to join us at Violon this evening. Looking forward to it, as always. Stopped in to visit with Alexandre this morning.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Your pictures sure tell the story of your Happy Thanksgiving. It was a lovely picture of you.....I recognize several of your Violon menu items. Wonderful dinner.
I am a fan of Le Violon, so enjoyed your post very much.
Up and off to breakfast to my favorite spot this morning. Temp quite mild.
I strolled down to Rue Cler to see what was new. Found a funky little spot for a caesar salad, glass of wine. All I needed, as Reed this evening.Forgot to pick up some flowers at a favorite spot on rue Cler.
Have some other spots to go to this afternoon...so many places to stop by!
Will post photos of little lunch spot later...

just catching up with your latest trip, Joan, and loving the way the photos come out on postimage.
looking forward to more......
Postimage is new to me and I do like it. Very easy to work with. Better than Photobucket....

What a great looking spot! The salad looks terrific, have a great time at Reed and say hello to Catherine! Sounds like she is really doing well!
Reading with interest....will be in Paris 12/1-15. Gracejoan, have you visited any Christmas markets or light displays yet?
Hi Judy..
Best to wait a bit...probably setting all up now...an annual walk is across the Seince and up Montaigne to Champs Elysses, Rond Point....market will all be opening soon, too.
Try to go to l'Obe at the Crillon on the 2nd or the 9th for lunch...you will be please and will see all the decorations. I will be there on the 2nd..you can make reservations online..ask for Frederic....
Have fun....
Denise, you know we are having fun... Will post from Reed in am. Catherine and I will have lunch at Florent's one day and all get to visit together. Phil will be here for a final dinner at Reed on Dec 14..he is in Hong Kong or Shanghair now...she will have all that we like!!
Like my apt....
a bientot...
Joan
Sounds great...Phil mentioned in an email that he was headed to HK for TG. Quite a wknd trip! I know you all will have a great time! Can't wait to hear about Reed!
All the Reed from last evening will be below.
Yesterday was a nice day..it was warm even in the evening. I had a busy day running here and there to see what changes were going on. Many places seem to be closing. A long time beauty shop near Florent, closing and a bakery too.
I meant to pick up some flowers when on r. Cler at my favorite place..but forgot.
It was very windy during the night, but the sky looks clear this morning.
Enjoyed seeing Catherine and we will have lunch together one day soon..maybe at Florent's so she can also visit with him...in his atmosphere!!
I had the chicken..all was very good, Mick had veal and I am not sure what Jonnie had..Mick was the only one for dessert.
Many visits with Catherine during the evening..when she had a minute. Seemed to be mainly Americans in the restaurant.

Looks like another delicious trip for you, Joan. Always a pleasure to read....continue to enjoy. BTW, which PP apartments are you staying in this trip, and how do you like them. EJ
Everything looks fabulous!
No kidding! But how does one eat like this every day? I'd be as big as a house! Good on ya, Joan!
St Cirq..
The combination of walking, eating over long periods of time and whatever seems to make for losing weight. Others have said the same.
I will post lunch yesterday at Marco Polo. I think it might be better for dinner. It was very crowded. I hada pasta dish and it was good - nothing to rave about. The place looked attractive, but was so crowded that hard to tell more. I will give it another try, because of friends recommending it.
I did some wandering around the 6th on a Sunday. It was busy! Not a bad day weather-wise.
Today 110 Taillevent for lunch. Looking forward to giving it a try!

110 Taillevent. I made a dinner reservation for Tuesday evening!!
They are open 7 days...
I had hardly been seated..at the bar..which was really fun..nice help to chat with...very friendly and fun..when a tap on my shoulder and it was Alexandre ith his little girl. He lives in the neighborhood and dines there often. How fun to see him!

another Fabulous trip!
Happy to read Phil is joining you.
I stayed twice YEARS ago at LÁbbaye
when it was not as expensive . It still had charm but it's been redecorated since my days there.
I also stayed in the l'Abbaye a few years back. Nice people/place. The have a very good following. Nothing was as expensive years ago!!
Weather has been good. Cannot complain.
I am really delighted with 110 Taillevent. Looking forward to dnner there.
EJ - I am staying in a new apt that still has some finishing touches to be done. It is a 1 bedroom, but very spacious and ET views from 4 windows/rooms. Location, location, location!Loads of storage space..nice spot for a longer stay.
Giving l'Ami Jean a lunch try tomorrow after 2 bad tries a few years back. I think it may be hard to surpass today, for me, anyway!

I want to go to Taillevent someday. I'll bet Alexandre's girlfriend was a beauty. he is so handsome!!
Looking forward to your thoughts on L'Ami Jean. Know we are in the minority but we have yet to be won over.
Hi Jim...
Catherine C said they they went a coupld weeks ago and it was very goo. Only reason that I am trying it! Yes, we seem to be in the minority, but will see today. After yesterday, it will have a problem. I do understand that they have changed their seating somewahat, so not packed in like cattle.
sueb - That was Alexandre's young daughter with him. She is about 18 months old.

Back from lunch and l'Ami Jean. How to tell it..
Some very good items, chicken was too rubbery for me to cut. Did not care for the space problems..so close that everytime the help went by they brushed my back and they constantly yell from one end to the other. It is not that I do not like funky place..look at Cafe Constant or Casse Noix!
Pat/Jim..don't know that you want to rush to add to your list. They have enough who rave about the place that I don't think we will be missed, either! I just think that at least we 3 may have other places that we enjhoy more for whatever reasons...I will add photos a bit later.
Weather was cooler when I left there than when I had arrived!

Weather still good, but think it is supposed to get colder!
Florent told me that France TV had just had something on 110 Taillevent and it would probably be difficult to get into the restaurant for months.
I have a reservation for next Tuesday evening. If some nice someone is in Paris and would like to join me, I am rather certain that my table would seat 2 and 110 Taillevent my be pleased to have the seat taken. If so, please let me know ASAP.

Just catching up on your trip, Joan. At some point earlier this year we thought we might be in Paris for Thanksgiving, but we ended up in San Francisco (not bad either!). We'll be in Paris in May, though, so I'll be following your eating adventures.
I really like the looks of Les 110 de Taillevent - just read through "Le Concept" section. Neat!

Sue,
The Provence has same owners, same building as the Faugeres, only it is ground level with a small courtyard. I think you would like it.

thanks Joan. I must have walked past the door to Provence many times. It would be easy not to navigate the stairs.......
I forgot to comment on Philippe Excoffier. Nice little place. He has good background with Senderen etc..I have since seen a very nice wite up from John Talbot..who I think might be the best, most honest in reviews.
Yes, I will most certainly go again. Jonnie had pheasant and thought a be a bit gamey, to her tastes..not the best item for her to order.

Thanks for letting us know about all these restaurants - my list for February keeps growing thanks to you.
Well, I saw lots of things from Reed that looked familiar and so good! I don't know it is about Marco Polo....I think we start craving lighter, more simple fare after a few days of foie gras. We do love it and we love Albano, as well. So just simple pasta there hits the spot for us.
110 Tallivent looked great...the bar was beautiful and the cheese/dessert looked heavenly. Although, if Alexander was there how could you look at anything else?,
If you want to go to 110 Taillevent it would be a good idea to make a reservations soon. Wait until I have photos for dinner Tuesday evening. Cafe Constant, Les Cocottes and Violon d'Ingres are regulars for me..Reed, too. l'Obe on Sunday is always a must do, and most especially this time as the Crillon will be closing for about 2 years.
Going to Au Petit Sud Ouest for lunch tomorrow. Ran into her today, and it is a must do. Going out with Florent and Michael to Cafe de Breteuil tomorrow night..so many places to go to and so little time!!

Florent and Michael made our dining reservations for we 3 for about 9:00 The Grand Bistro. The have 4 locations. www.legrandbistro.fr We were going to the Breteuil as they know that chef, but he was not there for the evening, so we went to Muette. Good sized place and very busy..did not care for the table first mentioned and were then taken back, back and around as though another private dining room..a nice, nice table for our evening. It was probably all French dining, but as noted by Florent, not the same as the 7th location and customers.

Definitely recommend their restaurants..would like to try the Breteuil one before leaving…
Off to l’Obe at the Crillon today….always very special…..
A bientot….
Joan
That looks great and I love the champagne glasses! Sounds like you all had a great time. I know L'Obe will be specisl.
Just returned from l'Obe...great to see Frederic and hear all the news about his life and the Crillon. l'Obe will be the new swimming pool..l'Obe will br surrounding the patio. Nothing is allowed by law to be done to the beautiful lobby area..bar will be enlarged.
Crillon is not closing until late March..so all you who want to go to l'Obe before closing, do make your reservations...this is l'Obe..NOT Les Ambassadeurs..and Sunday is the day for lunch that you want.
Frederic is goingt to work in a nice restaurant with similar ambiance in Japan for 1 yr. beginning in February. His family will not be going with him. Upon his return he may be involed with customer service in some way.
He asked if he could have someone take a picture of us, as he had told his family so much about me. I did the same. It was all quite sentimental for both of us.
I will post pictures in due course, beginning with a complimentary pink champagne.
The cost of the renovation is something like the recent lottery that was won..but if owned by the 2nd son of the King of Saudi Arabia, money is of no problem!!
a bientot...
Joan
Glad to hear the lobby will not change....I hope they maintain the Crillon in a classy way and not too glitzy! Hope Frederic does well in Japan!
The pool, bar and l'Obe move and some things to Les Ambassadeeurs..but most probably to get all the high tech in the rooms...
thanks for your suggestion. Maybe we will begin making some reservations. Just thought it might be a touch far in advance for the restaurants to be taking them already.

Sooooo jealous Joan!! Counting down the days til we leave in March.
If you enjoy nice places do contact L'Obe for Sunday lunch...not brunch in Les Ambassadors. Frrederic will be gone, but I am sure you will enjoy the pleasures of L'Obe and the Crillon.
I did make a reservation for lunch on Wed at the Grand Bistro de Breteuil..the same group as Sat evening..but here in the 7th!
I had lunch at Florent's little place today and did have some time to visit with him. When you feel like a simple/good lunch, do go by his place. He is a delight...

Joan,
Where is Florent's place? We will only be there for 5 days, after Italy for 10. We do plan on Reed and Le Comptoir, and a restaurant near the apartment we stay in in the 15th called Pizza Flora, but would always be up to trying something new. We won't get in until the evening of our first night there so taht will probably be Pizza Flora night. Tried as I might, 6:55 pm is the earliest I can get us to Paris from Sicily. Oh well, it's going to be fabulous!! Enjoy Paris.

Lisa,
Florent's place is called Flirt The (like tay. It is on Duquesne very near Ecole Militaire metro. He serves lunch mainly and tea in mid afternoon.

Aren't the 2009s spectacular?! I've started to "collect" them - drink some now, and lay some down for aging. Neck and neck with 2005, for sure.
I was smart today and caught up on your trip AFTER I ate lunch.
Thanks for a great report.
Yes, 2009 is really becoming a very good year all around, I think.
The timing difference from Paris to US can ruin a lunch or two!!
Les 110 Taillevent is a good spot..don't know how they call it a brasserie..not like any brasserie that I know of. A good, good spot..but with the name Taillevent you would not expect a normal brasseerie. Do add to your list, lunch or dinner. I do not think that you will be disappointed!

The Grand Bistro Breteuil…
A simple bus ride (#28) …about 10 minutes, or less. The return bus is right in front of the restaurant.
A busy place. They certainly have a large regular clientele. This is a residential area and some business people for lunch, but many locals. I am sure it is the same in the evening.
A bargain for the price. It is busy, so noisy…no a place for a quiet, relaxed evening…that would be more 110 Les Taillevent…

I did stop by Florent’s as the bus is right there. We visited and he called for re-confirmation of hotel and restaurant reservations for Saturday overnight in Reims. We have nice dining reservations that he told were for special people..Americans..and there were 5…so we have the best table in the house, for 5. As is the custom, it is our table for the evening….
Colder out and to be colder as it will be sunny tomorrow..per Florent!

The meals you've been eating look even better than your last trip, if that's possible. I just caught up to all the posts today. Things have been tough here since I returned from Paris in October. Reading about your trip adventures has put a smile on my face.
As always, thanks for taking us with you. Please say hi to Florent for me.

Ooooh, that all looks so good and a little Chablis sounds really nice! Makes my keftover manicotti dinner look so sad!

Florent did mention you stopping by.

OMG! Pizza Tina and Les Crayères in the same thread - I love it!
Pizza Tina is one of my favorites - is the crazy Sicilian family still running the place? It was my kids' favorite restaurant in Paris until they developed more sophisticated (expensive) tastes. We had to visit it at least twice on every trip.
Those scallops (and the eggs) look absolutely gorgeous!
Yes that is quite funny to have those two so close together in being mentioned....No, I do not see the 2 gals there anymore..they were half the show!

We did go to Reims on Saturday morning and returned late afternoon on Sunday. Good trip over on Saturday with no traffic problems. Returning Suday we did run into traffic problems as we neared Paris, so took longer.
Had a great time. The Best Western Hotel was in city centre and was a perfect location and also had the convenience of a parking garage. The hotel has finess center, swimming pool etc. Rooms were very nice. I had an 8th floor room with great views.
It was a festive weekend market time with much activity. Even an ice rink.
On Sat we found a nearby spot to take care of lunch needs. Choucroute is on all the menus when you get into that direction from Paris.
We went to the cathedral and some other site seeing and shopping. It was quite cold. Returned to the hotel and Florent, Michael and I went back out and wandered around, checking out to see if there was a local restaurant that we might like to try for lunch on Sunday. Did not find one that would be open, so just decided on the hotel after our visit to the winery villa. We spent some time in the bar and while there decided that we 3 needed to go to dinner at 110 Les Taillevent on Tuesday evening. We called and made reservations. That was taken care of.
We had dinner reservations at 8:30 at La Vigneraie, whch was only a block away. I had found it online and sent the url to Florent and he had called and also agreed that it seemed like 'our kind of place' and made the reservations for us. We found that we had made a very good choice. I would definitely recommend it. They are closed, Sunday evening. Monday and Wednesday lunch.
Sunday was breakfast in the hotel. A breakfast bar with everything you could want. We then did the Villa Demoiselle tour, bought some champagne and then back to the hotel where we had made lunch reservations before departing for 'home' in Paris.
A good idea for us to do and our selection of where to stay and dine turned out well for all.
Reims is a good place to go, if only for a shopping day. An easy trip fro Paris by train or car.
I will post photos later....
I am off today for lunch at Pierre Meneau's restaurant. He is the son of Marc Meneau of Vezelay l'Esperance fame! Will be a fun time.

Joan, for some reason I am unable to access any your photos today. Has anyone else had this problem? I went to older posts on this thread and they don't work either, it must be their problem. I'm glad you had such a successful trip even if it was cold. We were thinking of extending our fall trip and now I'm glad we didn't as neither of us like cold weather and the weather in Florida this fall has been wonderful. Enjoy your last few days.
Mrs. Laidback
Hi Pat,
Post imaage says hey are closed temporarilty for maintenance..that must be the problem..you might like to take only a day trip to Reims and give it a try
Laidback...I had trouble accessing a few of the photos. Some came through some didn't.

Of the photos I did see 2 were of the Remis cathedral. I'm happy to say I now finally see the exterior. When I was there in 2010 the front facade was covered in scaffolding. That's always the chance I take when I travel, something will most likely be under restoration!
Joan...I'm very much enjoying following your adventures!
I could not open them either. First time this has happened.
Missing my vicarious food fix!
I think they may all be OK now..evidently doing some maintenance on the site. The site is donw not for entering any new photos. I did go to lunch at Pierre Meneau's Crom Equis today. Attractive, modern decor...not large. Good lunch. Catherine said not as good as previously for her. I do have photos, but they will have to be later when ssite is ready to go again.

Les 110 Taillevent
It is a really good spot. We sat at the bar and when you see the photos of the bar and seating, you will see that it is comfortable. The staff behind the bar is so informative and friendly. All the staff is that way. People do make a place..we all know that. Pat/Jim…I told Florent that this would be a good spot for you to go to together….

Links don't seem to work on Fodor's
There website is available for all to check out
links worked just fine for me, gracejoan.
your duck looked lovely.
What was the ungarnished beef like? - the presentation was a little, well, simple!
Michael did enjoy the beef..yes, it did look a bit simple..the spinach might have been better added to the plate. We did all enjoy..F & M are ver particular, too. My ducklong was very good.

ooh - yum, gracejoan. prawns AND chocolate [though not on the same plate, obviously].
Oh, holy cow....I had that fantastic shrimp with rice at Cafe Constant last year. We still talk about how good it was, especially the rice! Paris is certainly delicious. Glad that you all had a good time at les 110 Tallievent.
Denise:
It isn't too late to fly over and meet us at Reed Friday night!
Have a wonderful time tomorrow night. Looking forward to see pictures of who was there.

Oh, weekender and Joan.....I wish. I have been buried at work since we got back from Rome, so no fun travel for me right now. I wish I could. I know you all will have a great time at Reed. Send pictures and maybe sip a little French Fizz for me!

Joan, those eggs do look delicious. How were they prepared?
BTW, I was glad to see your companions looking happier in the 2nd photo than they did in the 1st!
PS - thank you for sharing your lovely meals with us, and bon voyage!
Joan,
I am sad your trip is over. I enjoy reading about your delicious meals every day!! Just making me want to get to March that much faster so we can be there too!! Have a safe trip home,
Lisa
I have enjoyed, and perhaps given some of you some ideas of new places to try.
I never get to them all....

Joan
Joan,
You definitely gave us Reed (went last Christmas) and we told Catherine we heard about it from you. She was very pleased. We will definitely eat there in March.
Lisa
Lunch looks great. I wonder annhig, if the eggs were prepared sous vide...that's my almost educated guess. I think dinner is just underway at Reed....can't wait to hear about it.
Oh that sea bass looks delicious! I had it last year when I was there and my taste memory of it is coming back as I type this.

I hope dinner at Reed was wonderful...love that place too!
Have a safe journey home Joan!
Your posts always give me wonderful ideas of place to eat. We will certainly try some this winter. Thank you and safe travel home.
I'm also sad to see your report come to an end. Thanks for all of the great updates and pics. Safe travels home.
Dinner at Reed is yet to come....it is this evening...only 7:30 am now..

As always Joan, thanks for much for allowing the rest of us to travel with you vicariously! Merry Christmas!
Stopped at little spot on Augerau..brand new since last here..can’t complain. Went to my regular little shop along there where I always buy something...

Interesting Joan...was the bottle of Pastis just for you?
I knew I would get a comment about that..it was the tap water bottle..I did have a glass of wine...
A rather wet day, but not really cold. Wed was the only really cold day..a nasty little wind with it.
I am pretty well packed..pick up is 7 in morning..printed out the temp boarding passes this morning..have to exchange it for the real ones at airport.
No word from Phil, but did see flight arrived. He is busy shopping, I am sure. He has lttle time to waste!!
Catherine is looking forward to us and has ordered the 'special' foie gras!! I will try to arrive ahead of others.

Joan,
Guess you decided to hold off on Toulouse for another time? Weather down here has not been great, maybe 2-3 sunny days out of the last 12, so you didn't miss anything in that respect.
We're headed up to Toulouse next week for some shopping and will try to get in Le Bibent for lunch.
Have a good flight home.
No, I did not get to Toulouse. I thought I was coming down with some kind of sore throat.cold etc so did not go. I will get there next trip..hopefully...

I am home..long day..arrived home about 9:30, so up for about 24 hours..went straight to bed..dig out beginning today.
Had great time Friday evening at Reed..late. Forgot to take pics of group...too bad!
Funny thing on flight home..a gal at other end of 4 seat row asked if I was Joan Grace..knew the face for Fodor's!!
Just for those of you who fear gaining weight in Paris by dining well. I just weighed myself..lost 1 pound!!
Will add more later..

Joan
Now you are recognized on planes?? You are famous! Funny.
I am sorry there is no group picture but glad you all had so much fun you forgot to take one!
Glad you are home safe and sound. We had a little of the widow Cliquot's delicious product last night because we are missing Paris! A few olives and a great triple cream French cheese to start; Some mussels (which turned out great) and risotto to finish off. Not Paris, and not Reed but not bad!
I hope the kitty cats are glad you are home!
Pastis 51 is my favorite but not available here.
Luckily I have a friend who will send me a bottle when in Paris (as well as my apero Suze,
Did Phil arrive?
Hi Joan,
I am already having withdrawal symptoms now that your wonderful Paris posts have come to an end. Thanks so much for letting us share in your dining adventures and see the superb meals you have been enjoying. (I can hardly believe you didn't gain an ounce.) I will enjoy reviewing your photos, want to try some of the new places you liked. Thanks again for letting us have such a great 'taste' of Paris.

We did have a very fun night!
Looks so good...sorry I missed it all!
Happy times, great food but I wish you would take photos of the people with you enjoying the spoils of Paris
Seeing the pic of the tarte tatin has me wishing I was back at Reed...it was SO delicious!
Enjoyed everything...new plans..I will not be going to Paris in 2013 and am changing my stay dates. I will be going shortley after first of year in 2014 and staying about 2 months. This means no Thanksgiving at Violon for 2013.
Did some searching for a holiday to celebrate..decided against Valentines's Day.
Groundhog Day it is!! It is always celebrated on February 2. We will check the dates as to celebrating it on that date, or near that date....It would be on Sunday for 2014. We could do lunch or dinner.....decisions, decisions!! Mark calendar, Groundhog Day celebration at Violon d'Ingres, 2014!
