Hello
Can anyone help me me with shoe boutiques in Paris for larger shoe sizes, for example, size 43.

Any help much appreciated!

That's great info to have. I basically gave up on buying shoes in Paris when I went from a 39-40 to a 41 shoe size which was a good 20 years ago. I just got tired of looking and not being able to find what I was looking for. I last looked two years ago and didn't find anything except a handful of really high-heeled, size 41s. Ouch! My Parisian friend and I went out on a shoe search.

I once asked my salesperson at either Galeries Layfayette or Printmps where she bought her shoes as she mentioned that she has the same problem. She's a 41. Well her answer was: Italy! LOL!

Once a salesperson told me to look in the men's department for shoes! Yeah,right.

Two years ago I went shoe shopping. I wear a size 10.
The salesladies smirked as I looked at their tiny feet.
I now ignore Paris shoe boutiques.

Cigalechanta: I agree with you. I usually wear a size 10 (41). It's as if, if one doesn't fit into a certain box, so to speak, then one is non-existent.

And try going into some clothing boutiques. I went into an upscale British-designer clothing boutique, in Paris, and was looking for a certain skirt in the equivalent of a size US10 (UK12/French 40) , as that's what I wear in that designer and have no problem finding the size, out on the rack, here at home. Well, there were no size-10 equivalents displayed on the rack.

So, I asked the saleswoman if all of the size 10 equivalents were sold out. She then said that she would have to go to the back to get one as nothing is put out that's larger than the equivalent of a size 8. She agreed that she thought it was ridiculous, as she also wears a size 10-equivalent. So, she went to the back and brought out the skirt. So, a size 10-equivalent is carried and probably a few higher sizes, but just not put out on the rack for others to see? LOL!

I usually stick to buying handbags and accessories. Happy Travels!

I think a 41 isn't always a 10 but usually more like a 9.5. Because that's what size I wear. Although, as with all shoes, styles can vary as I wear size 40-42 (in the US almost always a 9.5).

Anyway, I've found shoes in Paris in various places about as easily as in the US (which isn't that easy for a 9.5). I don't buy expensive shoes, it's usually just to pick up an extra pair when I didn't pack right for the weather or something. SO I shop in cheap chain stores like Andres. I sure wouldn't make a point of that, though, as they are nothing special (although sometimes different styles than in the US, that's true, and they can go up to maybe 100 euro).

I think the answer is don't go to these expensive designer shoe places, go to standard chain stores. There are also some cheaper shoe stores in St Germain, down near rue du Four off bld Rennes, as I recall, I've bought some there, also. There are also lots of shoe stores on rue Meslay near pl Republique (running off to the west), I'd go there if you want lots of shoes.

Now a 43 may be a challenge.

As for shoes, I wear a U.S.10 and a European 41 and never a U.S. 9.5. As for where to buy shoes, I've been to plenty "standard" shoe stores that had non-designer shoes and I had very little luck at them.

I've hit all of the shoe stores on the west side of rue du Rennes and have found very few pairs of 41s, and they were high-heeled shoes. I've also gone to the department stores and other independent shoe stores around town with either no luck or a very limited, near non-existent selection. Happy Travels!

Paraboot on the rue Grenelle if you like good lace-ups and loafer shapes - expensive but well made and nice colours.

Tarquin: The last time that I bought a pair of Paraboots, at the rue Grenelle boutique, was in either the late 80s or the early 90s, if I remember correctly. It was back when I wore around a size 39 or 40. I remember that I bought the highest size that Paraboot carried at the time.

When the foot went to a U.S. size 10, I went into Paraboot several times over several years, and they had no shoes, in 41 for women. The men's shoes were in 41.

When was the last time you were in there? If they now carry 41s, in women's shoes, then I will go in there on the next trip.

A Parisian friend and I also went into Mephisto, in the 6th, and they had no women's shoes in a 41. That day, after hours out looking for shoes, I was just tired of looking and came to the same conclusion as Cigalechanta. Happy Travels!

I have bought shoes there in 40 and did not have the impression that it was the largest size. If a 41 is US size 10, then I think at least some styles are available, but I would ring to ask them before going.

The area around Parmentier metro is where you need to be.

At 39 av. de la République you have Palais de la Chaussure. Across the road at number 44, there is Sagone Chaussures. if you travel a bit further down the road and take a right into Rue de Nemours, Sagone have an outlet shop.

I have been to the Jean Thoit shop and found many of the style to be more matronly. Still, this may be what you are looking for. And having said this, it's still worth a visit. I went for the 1st time earlier this year and found the softest, butter-like leather sandals that I did not take off my feet for the remainder of my trip.

All the stores I mentioned go up to at least a 45, if not larger.

Mez: That's good info to have. If I remember correctly metro Parmentier is out in the 11th. Maybe I'll check it out and hopefully can find some "hip" shoes like the type of shoes that I used to buy at the Sacha shoe store (rue Buci) back in the day and back when I was a 39 or 40 and could find cool shoes.
