Paris in the Summer
I was wondering, how hot does it get in the summer for Paris. I've heard that it gets really uncomfortable. I'm trying to plan a trip to Paris but it seems the best months to go are May/June. May is almost over and June is too short notice for me. What other months are good times to go?? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks you

These days, Paris can exceed 100° F in summer. Humidity is usually fairly high, and there is no air movement. Air conditioning is essential indoors during much of the summer, and it can be extremely exhausting to be active outdoors in the hottest weather.
This is all fairly recent; ten years ago, this type of weather was rare in Paris. Nowadays, it is increasingly the norm.

Keep in mind that in a big city, the crowds add to the general discomfort of the heat. Not only will it be hot, but you'll be standing in longer lines and pushing (politely) through masses of equally sweaty tourists.
I live in NYC, so believe me, I know what I'm talking about

I've been there a lot in the summer, going again this July, and it is not predictably hot every single day in the summer months. Lots of days in the summer are moderate temperature. Going in July doesn't bother me in the slightest, it's not as hot as where I live, for example (Washington DC).
YOu can find historical weather stats for Paris on several web sites, like
http://www.paris.org/Accueil/Climate/
It gives avg highs and lows by month. I would not judge Paris as really uncomfortable for a city in summer, nor any city in Northern Europe. If it is unacceptable to you, not many places will be okay for you in summer. I wouldn't go to Andalucia or southern Italy myself in August, or Greece, for example.
I much prefer Paris in July to August. August is just deader, nothing much going on, at least things I care about (like ballet and opera cease around 7/15). Temps are about the same, though, in July and August.

If you go in May/June and you book a hotel with a/c, be sure to ask if the a/c will be operational then. My biggest surprise when travelling in June was that although the building did have a/c, it wasn't turned on in 100% of the rooms.

Yes, it can get really uncomfortable - I have been there when it has happened. It will likely be at least very warm, and humid, so if you are not quite tolerant of that kind of environment do book a place with AC. And if someplace tries to palm off "good cross ventialtion, fans provided" don't fall for it!
