Since two questions that are so often asked in the Paris-related forum are related to hotel choices and apartment rentals, I think a thread is needed to address the topic.
The apartment thread has already been started and has worked out quite well. So, I think we need a hotel thread, one for the LEFT Bank and one for the RIGHT Bank. I will try to top both threads to keep them current.
So, make your lists of hotels that you like and PLEASE post with complete information, along with a short description. Happy Travels!

OK, I'll start. As I mentioned on my, "Paris Hotels Left Bank Thread", I've stayed at a lot of hotels, around Paris, and almost annually since the mid 70s. However, I've only stayed on the Right Bank a few times and it was decades ago. I'm a Left Bank person. So, if you're interested in a Left Bank recommendation, you can pull up my other thread. Happy Travels!
Sorry to interrupt, just thought it would help to load the link to the 'other bank' thread so they stay somewhat 'tied' together..
If you want the "Left Bank" hotels thread, go here:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=35162713
I've stayed at two 3* hotels in the 9th arrondisement. Both are pleasant and convenient, and if you get a good deal they are good choices.
Mercure Monty Opera
http://www.mercure.com
5 rue Montyon
Hotel Marciano
http://www.parishotelmarciano.com
46, Rue de Trévise
You can see them on Google Maps:

For something totally new and different on the Right Bank at a completely reasonable rate, you might want to check out the Mama Shelter (www.mamashelter.com)which opened last month. Each room reputedly is a studio with kitchenette, boasts luxurious bedding and contains an iMac.
Thanks Travelnut...It's good you're high tech. I'm very low tech. Smiles. I have no clue as to how to do that function. I just got a Mac 3 months ago, and haven't figured out these computer functions yet. Great, now the threads can stay together and make it easier on folks. Happy Travels!
Our first trips to Paris were at hotels on the Right bank, both in the 1st Arrondissement near the Chatelet metro station. Over the years I'd checked these out and they've remained good hotels that get good reviews from travelers. I believe you can find both of them on my favorite hotel website, Parisby.com.
Grand Hotel de Champagne
17 rue Jean Lantier
01 42 36 60 00
champaigge@hotelchampaigneparis.com
Hotel Britannique
check Parisby.com website
More recently we've stayed twice in the Marais area near the Hotel de Ville at two other hotels I found on the Parisby.com website:
Villa Mazarin
Nice rooms but no real public rooms and breakfast only in your room, no breakfast room.
Hotel Duo
Great public rooms and even a small fitness room. Since we stayed there, I believe their guest rooms have been remodeled and prices raised, but some rooms are very small.
On the Right Bank we like the Hotel Mansart, just off the Place Vendôme and sharing a wall with the Ritz. It's a very European small hotel with antique furnishings and is on a street with an ATM, a pharmacy, and a post office. There are any number of restaurants nearby, including Le Soufflé and L'Ardoise and the fine café Le Pain Quotidien.
The hotel is very popular; so reservations well in advance are advised. One year in advance would be a good idea for September/
October, as the hotel gets clients returning for the various shows.
Front-desk staff are very helpful.

Thanks posters for your helpful recommendations. Keep them coming. Happy Travels!
Our first trip to Paris 3 years ago (not counting the one made with my parents in 1961) we stayed at the Hotel Brighton in the 1er on Rue de Rivoli. It was wonderful - great location, beautiful views from our balcony of the Tuileries, the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, etc, and the price was very reasonable. The website for the hotel is:

In 2000, we stayed at the Hotel de la Bretonnerie
http://hotelbretonnerie.com/bretonnerie.htm
We loved the location, and thought the street was fun. There were some cool shops and a bit of lively but not wild gay nightlife. It was fun for us and we are a straight couple.
Our room was a category above the standard double, and there was enough room, though it was a bit tight around the bed. We looked on to a courtyard/shaft type area, and there was some noise from a building in the back where there was some sort of garage. This was only in the day.
Service was fine, and one thing I remember is a wonderful lady in the breakfast room who saw us drag in after an overnight flight, and bid us sit down while she served us breakfast. There was no extra charge, which I thought was a terrific gesture. Can't promise it will happen to you, but it was so nice.
My favorite area is the Marais, so I've stayed at numerous Right Bank hotels in the 3rd and 4th over the years, all of which were great for what I wanted at the time: the St Merry, the Castex, the Axial Beaubourg (now the Duo), the Hotel de Nice, and the Hotel Grand Turenne.
This year, I wanted more of a splurge for the end of my 50th birthday trip in September, and I've always wanted to stay at the Pavillon de la Reine on Place des Vosges, so I went for it, and it was lovely. Definitely not inexpensive, especially with the exchange rate at that time, but the location, service and charm of the hotel were all great. I was a little surprised at how small the rooms are, given the rates, but they are well-appointed and comfortable, and the bathroom in mine was quite large (with a separate tub and shower) which was a nice feature.
...Happy Travels!
The Bourg Tibourg, located in the Marais, is a stylish boutique hotel decorated by Jacques Garcia. Small rooms but very nice bathrooms. Same owners at Hotel Costes. http://www.bourgtibourg.com/
My husband and I returned October 25 from Paris. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at the lovely Hotel Lancaster, 7, rue de Berri. Located off the Champs-Elysees it is an oasis. We were upgraded to a suite (2 bathrooms!) upon arrival. Rooms are filled with antiques, original works of art and beautiful fabrics.
A full breakfast was included. The lounge area looks out onto a beautiful Asian garden. The restaurant, La Table du Lancaster, has one or two stars, I forget.
Very convenient to metro George V. Staff could not have been more wonderful and helpful.

You know, there has to be a better way to keep this thread going. Is the revision to the site that Fodors keeps promising going to make any allowance for "continuing threads?" Alternately we might just copy the separate threads that get started about hotels in Paris onto one of the two that you've started here, Guenmai. I think this is a good idea, but it's hard to keep going somehow.
My usual place is a smaller hotel;with a nice restaurant and comfortable rooms.
www.hoteldanielparis.com
Julie-I'll just keep the thread going by topping it from time to time. I try to do it weekly, but sometimes it tops and sometimes it doesn't. Happy Travels!
Julie- I really don't want other threads copied onto my thread and thus cluttering things up.
I've started the hotel threads to try to make it easy on folks, who need the information, and want to be able to read through it and print it relatively fast. Happy Travels!
Ok, sure hope it works. I've posted my favorites. That's the best I can do. I'm returning to Parc St. Severin in March--if they'll have me.
Julie: It might not get topped again until around the first of the New Year as I'm off to Buenos Aires in a few days. But, if I have computer access I'll be on the forum. Happy Travels!
Only two to offer:
Moderate Scale:
Hotel Langlois
63 Rue Saint Lazare
Upscale:
Ambassador Hotel
16 Boulevard Haussman
3 budget options on the Right Bank:
My favourite hotel in Paris so far, the one that is going to be my first choice from now on, Hotel France Albion.
http://www.albion-paris-hotel.com/
Nice and quiet, very clean and pleasant. Perfect location as far as I'm concerned; in a residential neighbourhood, very near a fabulous market street (rue des Martyrs) and various bakeries, food stores and restaurants.
Other good experiences on the Right Bank, which I seem to like a little better than the Left (even though I have stayed there too, I have so far never stayed at the same hotel more than once):
Hotel Madeleine Opera
http://www.hotel-madeleine-opera.com/us/p1.html
Hotel d'Espagne
http://www.hotels-emeraude.com/hotels/espagne/us_presentation.htm
I just remember that I stayed at another right bank hotel that was VERY nice: Hotel Gotty Opera on rue Trevise, in the 9th. I loved that hotel. I'm just not one for the 9th. I'm a left bank person.
I was to stay with my Parisian friend and her father, on that trip, but her father suddenly died and I had to make very fast last-minute rearrangements.I called United's travel service, and they put me into that hotel. It's a block from the Folies Berges (sp?)which was my view out of my balcony window. Happy Travels!

The Hotel Britannique in the 1st is wondeful! We stayed there for nearly a week in July 2007. We had two rooms, one with a queen bed and the other with 2 twins. The queen room was small, but the other was quite spacious. Both rooms had enormous closets, mini bars, great a/c, nice bathrooms, and quiet/darkening shades built into the windows. Both rooms faced the street, yet noise was not a factor at all. The hotel has a nice breakfast, and a great sitting room off of the lobby.
There is a metro station sort of kitty corner, as well as many restaurants, shops, and a post office nearby. Very short walk to the Louvre as well.
The staff were very helpful and they will give you a map of the nearby area and can make restaurant suggestions, and show you on the map how to get there.

I like the 1st arr the best and have stayed at the following hotels:
Hotel Jolly
Hotel du Louvre
Clarion St James & Albany
one more but can't think of the name
Maybe someone will see this and help me out: I need a hotel very near the Gare St Lazare, for a conference at a hospital that is on a train line direct from the Gare. Most attendees want to stay in central Paris but very near the Gare St Lazare.
Anyone been in a good hotel in this area? I guess around 200 euro.
It would really help if people would post prices as well as location. My idea of "reasonable" is a lot less than the 235 euro the cheapest room at the Brighton costs! In fact, I paid 67 euro for a single at the Hotel Le Sevigne - www.le-sevigne.com - in the Marais last month. No charm, but great location, comfortable bed, plenty of hot water - even a heated towel rail.
Tuscanlifeedit- I've started this thread to provide a list of different hotels. If you have a specific question, please start a thread for that so that this doesn't turn into a discussion thread. I'm trying to keep it as uncluttered and easy to access information as possible. Thanks. Happy Travels!
Thursdaysd-This is a list of just "hotels", not a list of just "reasonable hotels". Different readers are in different price ranges. I would just like lots of different hotel ideas to flow.
I started this thread to try to help folks get a jump start on hotel ideas. They can then print the list and do additional research on those they might be interested in.
We do get a lot of "newbies" on the forum who have no idea of what hotel to possibly choose.
I would hope that folks would post an approximate price, as I've asked for complete information. However, if they don't (maybe they have forgotten) , then fine. The reader can look that up. Hope this list is helping folks. Happy Travels!
"This is a list of just "hotels", not a list of just "reasonable hotels". " - I understand that (and thanks for starting the list). My problem was with people who just say a hotel is "reasonable", without giving a price. One such post was for the Brighton, which turned out to cost 235 euros.
Guenmai, in your initial post you said "The apartment Thread has already been started..." I tried to search for it under the title "Paris Apartment Thread" and nothing came up.
Would you be kind enough to provide a link, or at least the actual title, so that we all could access it? Many thanks!

Then just copy and paste the link.

Hotel Taylor

A very nice boutique hotel a few minutes from the place de Republique. The staff were very service minded and really took care of us. I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel.

Great suggestions. Has anyone had experience with any of these:
Hotel Magenta

Hotel Republique
Am looking for a triple for just one night until our apartment is ready. Preferably for under 150 Euros.
I have stayed at the Westin Paris on the Right Bank across from Jardin des Tuileries, we had a very nice room/suite, excellent service and convenient location.
I have also stayed at Le Meurice across the street on rue de Rivoli. It is really luxurious and I highly recommend it as well as the location.
I have stayed in those two so often in the past that I sort of think of that area as my comfort zone and know it better than most other areas.
On our last trip to Paris, we stayed at the Caron de Baeumarchais in the Marais. We loved it. We asked for a room in the back of the hotel which would allow me the quiet I needed to sleep off jet lag and my spouse to wander the streets of Paris at her desire. It is a small jewelbox of a hotel(19 rooms). There is a lift and breakfast was, at that time, 11 euros. It was decent as far as those things go. We were a block from the metro and walked almost everywhere from our hotel.
On our return to Paris from Provence that trip we stayed at the George lV in the 6th which we were really rather non-plus with. It seemed cold and remote compared with the Caron. I think we are also, quite frankly, not 6th folks.
I would advice (for a cheap hotel):
Grand Hotel d'amiens
88, rue du Faubourg Poissonnière
75010 Paris
Cheap hotel, very clean and friendly. Stayed there once before and quite enjoyed it. Situated not far from the Gare du Nord in Paris.
Here's there http://www.grandhotelamiensparis.com

Thanks for this thread, I am using it to find a hotel for our last night in Paris after we return from the week in Italy.

I also enjoyed staying at Hotel Langlois in the 9th. I stayed there with three friends, and we split two rooms. Both rooms were large and comfortable, with nice bathrooms. In fact, one of the rooms (sorry, I forget the number), had an incredibly large, deluxe bathroom and a gorgeous antique wardrobe. Breakfast in the hotel's front room was delicious, with fruit, pastries, cereal, yogurt, coffee and juice, for an additional fee. I think each room was about $175 per night; that was four years ago, so you should check prices. Highly recommended!
Your welcome, Schnauzer. Hope you find what you're looking for. HAppy Travels!

We stayed at the Renaissance Paris Vendome in May of this year for one week on Marriott points. The location was within walking distance of many sites including the Louvre, and we didn't use the metro at all for the first several days. It was our fourth trip to Paris, and the first time staying on the Right Bank.
The hotel staff was very friendly. The room was the smallest we've had in Paris, but it was clean and up to date, and they made good use of the space. We booked before Marriott raised the category of many of their hotels, so for us, it was a tremendous value and the only way we could have made a trip this year. If you have points to burn, you really can't go wrong choosing this hotel.
We ended spending our last night in Paris at the Le Relais Montmatre in rue Constance in the 18th. It was a terrifc find, very friendly, cute, quaint, clean, nicely furnished (a bit like an English B and B)great staff, fabulous location, 5 mins walk from Blanche metro, good shops in rue Lepic (rue Constance is off rue Lepic of Amelie fame)and a good price to boot. We paid 159E (I think) for a superior room which is normally 190E.(they gave us the discount when booking without us even asking) Their normal doubles are about 150E I think.
I would highly recommend this hotel. We looked at the Langlois for the same price and there was NO comparison, the Langlois was really tired and dated.
I would have stayed up to three /four nights, any longer and I think the room would have been too small. But for me any hotel room would be too small after 3 nights. (unless it was the Grand Miremare SML) The bathroom was good, reasonable size and very clean. Good products etc.

Here's a recommendation for
HOTEL RELAIS DU MARAIS
76 rue de Turbigo
75003 Paris
What we like:
Convenient location--steps away from Metro Temple, also very close to Metro Republique, Arts et Metiers. Monoprix 30 seconds away. All the color of the Marais in one direction, Place de la Republique in the other.
Excellent service--reception, housekeeping, breakfast room, all staff are approachable and eager to please.
Free wifi.
Value for cost--we booked 3 months ago, direct through hotel's website.Chose the promotion for 3+ nights @ 90E/night including breakfast. Sounded too good to be true, but we felt pretty comfortable with the choice, based on above average TA comments. Having been here 5 nights so far, we could not be more pleased.
Misc.--our room is relatively large, bathroom huge, bright and colorful, with excellent water temp/pressure. Ample storage. Mini fridge. Tall windows, lovely street view. Comfy bed, no noise issues.
When first searching for a hotel, we knew we wanted to stay in/near the Marais. We also wanted a location convenient to the Bataclan (50 Blvd.Voltaire, 75011)since we had tickets for a concert there. Finally, we hoped for a rate that was not over-the-top, since our second week would be a splurge in a Paris Perfect apartment. We made an excellent choice with this hotel---when I compare it to some of our other Paris hotel experiences, e.g., Britannique, I honestly must say we feel 100% more comfortable here, for much less money.
We won't hesitate to return to Hotel Relais du Marais.

I've stayed several times at, and would recommend, the Hotel Américain, a two-star at the top of rue Charlot near where it joins Blvd du Temple, near République. Quiet, comfortable, clean, pleasant desk staff, free wi-fi connection, within walking distance of the Marais, excellent transport links at République, plenty of places to eat nearby.

For a year, I've been trying to go through the above list and organize it in an easy way to read. So, I started this morning working on the Left Bank Thread and finished it at 12:01AM, New Year's Day! It was my New Year's resolution to get this done, once and for all!
I've decided to just keep working and I have now reorganized the Right Bank Thread. Who needs sleep? After all it's New Year's Day!

any opinions about the Hotel Lotti?
Just to report back in we had a fantastic experience at the Hotel Britannique on Ave Victoria in the 1st. The street is amazingly quiet even though it is literally two blocks from the Rue Rivoli, and quite close to the Louvre, Seine, etc. Metro stop around the corner, room was lovely and sparkling clean, staff very helpful, breakfast good. enjoy
TTT
Back in March 2011 I stayed in the Bastille De Launay, rue Amelot (11e) - between Bastille and the Oberkampf area. Recently re-decorated, free wifi; my room on the courtyard side was quiet (apart from an opera-practising singer nearby) and clean, and the ensuite shower room was well-decorated. The locality is a bit workaday (the main business of the street appears to be motor scooter showrooms), but there are plenty of places to eat nearby (and cheaper breakfasts than in the hotel, by the look of things), and it's very well situated for public transport. It's one of the hotels available if you book a package from London through Eurostar.

Has anyone had any experience with Hotel L'Empire? http://en.lempire-paris.com/
I don't see it listed above and would like some feedback on location/other traveler's experiences. Thanks!
