Paris Hotel - Hotel des Nations St-Germain , Le Méridien Etoile

A friend and I are considering a trip to Paris this summer. We have been looking for a good package through Travelzoo or similar sites and thought we'd found one for 6 nights in Paris at Le Méridien Etoile with airfare for a little under $2000 per person for a double.

When the date that we wanted wasn't available, we started looking at other options. However, it gets overwhelming when I consider all the possible choices of hotels in a large metropolitan area and I am not familiar with the area. I have been to Paris, but only once and that was 11 years ago.

Right now, one of the possibilities is to book air separately at about $1550 (Chicago to Paris) and book a hotel such as the Hotel des Nations St. Germaine - 544 euro for 6 nights on 1 site or $108 per night on another.

The total would be about the same.

However, other than by reading reviews on tripadvisor, I have no idea if either of these hotels is a good choice or if we should look further.
