Paris Hotel for 2 adults & 2 children
I will be going to Paris soon with the family (4 of us). Can anyone recommend a hotel that can handle us in 1 room? The children are 8 & 10.
requirements: shower & toilet in room, close to metro, safe neighborhood, breakfast available, under 800FF, helpful staff that speaks English (or willing to work with us)
The Hotel de France has adjoining rooms that would work but I would rather be in one room with young kids. Any one stayed there that can comment on it?
Thanks in advance,

Michael,
I had a similar problem. My wife and two children (11 & 12) are going to paris next month. I found that Best Western has some hotels for 4 people. The one we are staying at slips my mind, however, it has the word "Opera" in the name. Another suggestion is Euro Disney, which we are visiting for 1 day. Their rooms have 2 double beds. In addition, although I didn't do it for Paris, I contacted some hotels in Italy via fax (try www.faxaway.com, very reasonable) from Frommers and got some good responses. Even hotels which don't list themselves as 4 per room seem to have them when asked. Good Luck.

I second the Best Western idea. Our family had a very nice, large room on the top floor of a small hotel affiliated with Best Western. It was right near the Cluny Museum and two minutes from several metro stops. Don't be turned off by the Best Western name; they are not necessarily big US type motels. Ours was quite old and "charming." The other advantage is that you can pay it all in advance in dollars.

Try the Novotel Guard-De-Lion, its a good, modern,
simple hotel, just 2 blocks from the Metro, my wife
& me stayed there 2 summers ago with my 2 daughters,
the room is not large but we managed well. They have
buffet breakfast, and indoor pool. Check with the
Novotel chain, they have an 800 number here.

Was in Paris in March '98 and stayed at Hotel de l'Esperance. It was wonderful! The staff speaks English (not tons, but they were very helpful to three English-only twenty somethings). The rooms are very nice (it's a two-star, but my guidebook says it's very nearly a three). Rooms have canopy beds, hair dryers, and cable TV. It's in the Contrescarpe neighborhood (I think it's in the fifth arrondissement, near the Latin quarter and a beautiful walk to the Pantheon and Notre Dame). Close to the Censier-Daubenton Metro, too. My guidebook lists the price for a quad at 560F. There's also a great French/Armenian restaurant near there (both the vegetarian and the beef kabobs are really good)-- Restaurant Colbeh, 22 rue Mouffetard. Have fun!
