Paris hotel => family of 5 ?

Looking for a hotel for a family of 5. Not many rooms are even an option... I've seen triples and quads but nothing that can accommodate five ? Will they allow us to put 5 in a quad room (little ones can sleep together ).

We are using FF miles into Paris and out of London in early March ... we visited Paris 2 years ago with my 2 older daughters, but they want to show their little brother the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, etc. We have very limited expectations during those 2 days given the constraints of meals and playground time...

We would rent an apartment, but it will only be 2 nights, so that doesn't make sense. Last time, we stayed near Palais Royal, which we loved. We would love that area again or the Marais or even the Latin Quarter and close to the islands.

Budget? yes. Ideally, we would like to spend 300E or less per night. Less, of couse, is a good thing. We do have lots and lots of American Express points, so we may use them to get a room. (One of the options is Marriott Champs Elysees, but I'm not sure the kids would appreciate that, so I'd rather not waste the points...)

thanks for letting me make a short question long!

You'd probably be better off looking for two connecting rooms. How old are the kids? If they're very young or you're not comfortable sleeping next door have one adult sleep in each room. Not ideal but it's only for 2 nights.

I don't understand why you say an apartment doesn't make sense. You can rent it in your budget and have plenty of room...makes perfect sense for a larger family

An apartment DOES make sense.I doubt you're going to find a room for 5 in Paris. Maybe chambres communicantes, or two rooms, but an apartment seems like a far better deal in terms of both room and price.

I put your details into venere.com and found several options. Try it with your dates and see

If you have a very small child or two, you should be able to work with a Quad. You need to fully disclose all who are staying in the room to the hotel when you book.

Try these options:

Hotel Excelsior Latin - Latin Qtr
http://www.excelsior-paris-hotel.com/
Quad looks big enough to add a cot for small child

Hotel Palais Bourbon - "family room"
http://www.hotel-palais-bourbon.com/

Hotel Danube "apartment"
http://www.hoteldanube.fr/

Hotel de la Paix - Montparnasse
http://www.paris-montparnasse-hotel.com/
Ask them about the room photo that shows a double + 2 twin beds

Citadines aparthotel with double sofabed + double bedroom
http://www.citadines.com/

Novotel rooms have double bed + 2 'twin' sofabeds

I'll never stay a hotel again. www.vrbo.com
This is a listing of owners renting their vacation apartments or homes. I've had great luck in France, Portugal, Italy, Spain & the US
I have a listing as well for a vacation home in the US. Speaking as an owner I've had wonderful experinces with weekly vaction renters.

Also check out the Hotel Residence Henri IV. We stayed there years ago with our two kids who were then 11 and 13. We had a 2-room + kitchenette. It's in a great location near the Sorbonne on a quiet side street, walking distance to Notre Dame, etc. Maybe they would allow 5 to stay in one "room" since one of the five is so little.

I think it will be difficult to find an apt. that will rent to you for five nights, and not all apartments will even take 5, either. It is a lot of trouble to go through (trying to find such a place, the stuff you have to go through with deposits, etc) for two nights.

I have heard of a couple hotels in Paris that have rooms for five. One isn't in your price range, though. I heard the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles does accommodate a family of five, so you could check that out, I don't know personally.

A hotel I stayed in might have room for you, as it has studios (I rented one, includes kitchenettes) and has one for 3/4 people and has a price for extra beds, so it is possible. That is the Trois Poussins hotel near metro St. Georges in the 9th arrondisement, and it was a nice place and I really like the neighborhood. www.les3poussins.com

YOu might look at some of those big, chain hotels like the HOliday Inn Republique, they have larger than usual rooms. Also, you might just have to split up, as some hotels may have a double and triple, but they aren't connected or even next to each other. Just may be what you have to do.

I don't think most quad rooms in Paris will allow five in because four is really stretching it as it is. Paris hotel rooms are very small usually. But you'd have to ask, you never know, I just wouldn't assume it will be that common that they will allow it. Your kids aren't that small any more, also, so I think it less likely a hotel will let you cram so many into a room (your youngest is at least five, if I recall). If one was a baby, it might be, but they are all school age.

You've got some time to work on it, maybe you can find an apt. for two nights.

surfmom,

Many (15%?) of the apartments with this agency allow very short term stays.

I would just call them (they are US based, in New Jersey) and tell them what you want (2 nights/5 people/location). I'll bet you they will have a few apartments that would work. They are very responsive and helpful.

thanks for the great replies!

highflyer, kids will be 5,7, and 8. If we have 2 rooms, we will plan on splitting up since adjoining rooms are rare. If a hotel with a Quad would let us put all five in one room, we would put all the kids in one bed (let them kick each other!) and we'd take the other one (or two).

heart, St Cirq, tico, I was unaware that I could find an apartment for 2 nights ? Maybe since it is the end of February and not peak season? I am also an apartment convert, but I didn't know it could be an option.

denise, I've never tried venere. Thanks for the link. There are some options, but not in my first choice locations.

travelnut, thanks for those links. There are some large quad rooms that I think could work. (if they let us put all five in!). I will email some of them and ask. I especially liked the first 3 locations. I've looked at Citadines and they only allow 4, so I'll have to include them on the email.

dmlove, thanks for the recommendation. I will email them and see if they will allow 5 also.

Christina, I looked at the Trois Poussins and the prices are reasonable. I'll check with them.

bardo, thanks for the idea. I actually have them bookmarked for our next visit (in a few years ?). I will call them because they have some nice properties. Many of them are 3 nights minimum, but again, since it is low season, I may try to sweet talk them!

thanks guys. Definitely given me some good options

Hi,

We stayed at Hotel de France Invalides. They do have adjoining rooms that can accomodate 5 people. Each room has its own bathroom. The location is pretty good, too. The street is very safe and quiet, and its an easy walk to the metro station. The Eiffel Tower is less than a 10 minute walk away.

Here's the website:

Have a great trip!

Just read about this place here on Fodors; it has a "family cottage" which is apparently two adjoining rooms. The price is a little above your 300 Euro per night, but for only two nights????
