PARIS. GTG-------Sept.14, 2016, anyone interested?

If any of the Fodorites are in Paris on this day, we could do lunch, drinks, or dinner on Sept. 14th.

Hi, good idea.
I'm game for dinner. Tell us where, I'll come wearing a beret and with a french baguette under my left arm.
Mvg.

We won't land until 2pm so it would have to be either drinks or dinner. I will keep my eye on the thread.

Drinks or dinner seems best but I have no idea how to plan such a GTG.
Anyone?
Is there such a thing as separate checks, or how do you pay?
If it's just a few people, dinner would be fun, but where?

We're staying on ISL...where are you staying AGM?

Maybe you Paris people could help.

I won't be there in September but since I have the same questions in a different post for a possible gtg in Paris for Oct 13, I thought I'd tag along with the conversation.

Separate checks are always possible, either paying by cash or credit card. You just give your part in cash, and if there's any amount left to be paid by credit card, you tell the waiter very clearly how you want it split up - who pays what. This obviously works best if people are adult about things

The London Forum does this well - you first toss around a few dates, then agree on a date and time, then give an absolute cut-off date because someone will have to reserve. Then, you choose a place based on drinks or dinner and ease of access.

Dinner is more complicated, since you'll have to reserve for a certain number, and if some people are late or don't show up, things get complicated for the staff.

It's probably not a good idea to plan to attend if you will be arriving on an overseas flight on the same day, because stuff happens.

Hi TPAYT

Best wold be to choose a restaurant - your call ;-)
Then we make a reservation (I can help here, since I don't have the time difference zone and I happen to speak reasonably well french, it being my mothertongue).

Restaurants don't mind if we are one or two people more or less than reserved but they are less flexible on timing - at least one of us should be on time to secure the reservation. Then we'll all flock to the table.

As for splitting the bill, here is a hilarious sketch that was one of the first of the great french artist Muriel Robin. She is not always that easy to understand, but that is really a good one.

The 15th works for us. We are planning on going to Philou (12 Avenue Richerand, 75010) for dinner so maybe somewhere nearby for drinks. Or we could be enticed to dine elsewhere.
