Going to paris in june.
Wife would like to know if sneakers
are ok .
What is the latest fashion for women
over 39.Summery stuff.

Thanks for the clarification elle. I'm flashing back to the 70's when Converse was out, out, out. I didn't even know there was a particular style to Converse. 
I did see a couple of pairs of HIGH TOP lace-up Converse tennis shoes in hot pink. Only on the ladies though.

C'mon "black cat." I know how non-French love to encourage black, but nothing screams American tourist louder than the all black outfit.
I saw a couple in Dijon two weeks ago. She was in black slacks, black turtleneck and black shoes. He was in black slacks, black shoes, black t-shirt and a black sport coat. From across the train station I thought to myself "American tourists."
Walked past, heard the accent and you betcha, American tourists.

By the way your cigalechanta's aren't singing tonight in Indiana. They're screaming. It's the 17 year cycle and the cicada's are everywhere. Supposedly they're just starting and it's going to get worse!

Yes, I heard they will be as far as New York. I had lunch with a foderite from Kentucky and she said they were on screen doors and all over. In Provence, you hear them but do not see them and only come out in the heat of summer. I never see any here, but hear them.

Elle- really??!! I posted in the other Paris wear thread about being very out of place in a hot pink jacket in April this year.
I also went into a shop displaying brightly colored sport shoes and clothes dispayed. I was way out of my league- the simplest sneaks started at about 140euros. I still have the first pair of white Chuck Taylors that I bought about 20 years ago. I never tried another neon or bright color.
Anyone know where I can find COTTON shoelaces?

I don't find sneakers or sports shoes up to the task of a trip with a lot of walking, and think you would be better off with a travel shoe like Rockports, with more support. Latest fashion for women over 39? Regular rules apply. If you can still pull off gauzy flouncy, do it, otherwise, clean lines and solids. It's just like any other large city. Those who have the fashion flair are likely to make you feel rumpled, but there are just as many people dressed in a less conscious effort and just trying to get to & from work like we do at home!

I actually did see someone wearing a black pants outfit with hot pink, high topped sneakers a few weeks ago in Paris.
I saw another woman wearing striped panty hose. As she approached one leg was colored ABC and the other was DEF. From behind the colors were reversed.

We're talking over 40 here.
There is no dress code, most of the people in major cities walk around looking like tramps, you may wish to join them or you can simply wear what you would at home. The whole notion of people changing how they dress for an holiday is ridiciulous. I wear what I wear in London all over the world, even in places where one wouldn't be underdressed in a loin cloth!
Grow up and worry about other things!

I will not be wearing all black.
I will not wear pink high top sneakers.
Here in NYC every one seems to dress down, very relaxed.
Wife still would like to know what comfortable ,fashionable shoes to get.
Serious advice is welcomed.

Actually, Paris in some ways IS like NYC. The fashions are more up to date than say , Jax Fl (I live here now so I can say that) and whatever I wore in NY could be worn in Paris without feeling out of style.
Shoes are much debated here, style vs comfort..whatever your wife finds most comfortable is the best pair to wear, no matter how great those shoes feel-after a few days of non-stop walking, her feet will hurt anyway.
Bring moleskins.
Bring a nice dress to wear for good restaurants (or skirt & top) and a pair of good shoes to go with that outfit.
If sneakers are comfortable-wear them, no point in going somewhere and having it ruined by sore feet.
I never wear shorts, so I tend to wear cotton summer dresses and skirts and tops..
Bring along a light sweater for anywhere that might have some good strong a/c.
Have a wonderful time and if you wife feels like she is not dressed the way she would like to be-take her shopping!
