Paris day trip (hour or less) to a provencial-style market?
I will be in Paris for about 10 days at the end of March/early April. For various reasons, can't make it to Provence this time, but would love to be able to take a day trip or two via train (hour or less each way) to a smaller town with a market similar to those found in Provence. Specifically, looking for market baskets, herbes, and just the overall feel of a smaller town's market. Please don't tell me just to go to Provence, because as I said, it's not in the cards this time. Oh, and I do have a copy of Annabel Simm's book, btw. Would love any helpful suggestions, and thanks! Laura

I doubt if any nearby market will seem to you like Provence. When you get away from the Paris metropolitan area - but not very far away - the only difrerence that you will find is that there are indeed some "farmers markets" with the real farmers selling their produce (unlike Paris), but the other difference is that you will find more people selling housewares and cheap clothing and other items to which villagers do not always have easy access. It's great if you're looking for kitchen towels or lace doilies, but otherwise you are in for a big disappointment.

French markets are, by their nature, regional affairs. You can't find a "provençale" market outside Provence. If all you want is a small-town market, there are dozens all over the place (google can provide endless lists). At the same time, Paris itself has countless markets where you can buy stuff from all over France, including from Provence.
