Paris, city of telamones and caryatids!

I hope you didn't have to look up those words!

Anyway, I thought some of you could use a different take on some of the details of Paris other than the previously mentioned 'space invaders.'

I have therefore taken a few pictures of these architectural elements, which you can see in all of the elegant areas of the city (and therefore not in my own neighborhood).

Wow, another great series of pics. These are the little touches that I like about Paris architecture. And, I will admit, had no idea what the words meant.

The police station ones are amazing and wonderful. What a sense of humour the architect must have had!

It is actually 12 reproductions of Michaelangelo's "The Dying Slave" -- the original is in the Louvre.

The architect was Manolo Nunez-Yanowsky.

Fascinating photos, kerouac. Thanks for sharing!

I've photographed many of these, but never knew what they represented. Off to google now....

I've always thought of these columns as caryatids and atlantes. You just taught me "telamones".

Thanks for sharing!

Some of you traveling with kids might want to have them keep an eye out for caryatids.

Thanks, Kerouac! Your photos are always fascinating. I am going to search for caryatids and telamones in Texas.

For no particular reason, I thought this might be a good thread to bump for people who are looking for different things to see in Paris as they wander the city.

Thanks for sharing this architecture. I see many beautiful and intriguing works of arts but don't always know what I'm actually seeing. I loved Paris. After 7 years I'm hoping to return next Spring.
