Paris: Brasserie Lipp
Looking for feedback from people who have been here. Suggested alternatives or similiar style restaurants welcome.
Dumb question: Can I assume the lunch menu is cheaper than the dinner menu?

We had great jambon & choucroute there, but our waiter was a bit brusque. We are always careful to be pleasant, and I used my somewhat poor French, but the guy was simply too harsh for me. Otherwise, we had a nice table and met some interesting people there. It seems to be easy to meet and talk with folks at nearby tables.

I've read about the brusque service and some not so good comments about food and again service. I wouldn't pay to be tortured. And it seems like another tourist trap. There are better restaurants in the area.

I have eaten there once, back in March of this year. We went on a Saturday evening and the service was quite good, polite, yet professional and not anything I would term brusque. It just seemed like the servers had been there a long time, knew what they were doing and were very proficient about it.
The food was good, Alsatian fare is not a huge favorite of mine, but it was tasty, filling and warm on a cold March evening.
I say phooey to the posters who deride this and that as "tourist traps" because, well, we ARE tourists. If you are a Hemingway fan or whatever the reason may be that you want to try Lipp's, it's your business, go and enjoy it. Is it the same as it was back when Ernest was downing the reisling there? No, probably not. But go and make your own memories of the place and enjoy it for what it is now and for what it was then. It is also in a great location for people watching. Have fun.
