Paris: Best (or Worst) Apartment Rental Companies

Hi everyone,
I am finally, after almost 9 years, going back to Paris with my children and husband. I'm sure for as much that stays the same year after year, I'm sure lots has also changed in Paris---including the current list of most reliable and trustworthy vacation rental companies.

Years ago we rented an exquisite apartment in the St Germain de Pres that is sadly no longer a rental and I find myself wondering how to edit the myriad choices of vacation rentals.

(Not to mention, wasn't there a law passed prohibiting vacation apartments in Paris?) Forgive me the naive question... I've been under the rock of domestic motherhood for almost a decade and I need to get my big girl travel pants on.

Are there any notable winners for renting apartments, or companies to steer clear of?

Years ago on this board I remember an agency that everyone here loved that owned multiple apartments in a single building near the rue Cler with views of the Eiffel tower... are they still around and reliable?

Thanks,
skatterfly

You are most likely thinking of Paris Perfect, www.parisperfect.com I have never used them but overall they are highly regarded and highly priced. Joan Grace ( who posts on here as gracejoan) stays in their flats frequently for extended periods.

I've used www.vacationsinparis.com with good results. They are more mid-range but also have some high-end flats. They are convenient for US residents as they're based in NJ, quote in $, speak English, etc., but have Paris-based greeters.

Everyone has favorites so am sure others will chime in.

About the change in the laws regarding renting private flats, I've not a clue when or if it will come about. Paris Perfect, I believe, owns the flats it rents rather than brokering private residences but Joan would know or you could just ask them and ask if the change impacts them.

I have also used Vacationinparis.com with success. The apartment I rented, #176 was exactly as described and was in a good and convenient building. They range from low to high priced and as Cathinjoetown noted, since they are located in the US the transaction was seamless. I liked being able to pay by CC rather than have to meet someone with a fistful of Euros upon arrival. The ff miles were a plus. They send you a key before you leave with explicit directions to the apartment. The key must be sent back no later than a week after your stay, which we did from Bruge. Altogether it was a positive experience.

We have had great success with http://holidays-france-rentals.com/. Would suggest looking at all suggestions and then go for the neighborhood and amenities of the apartment that suits you. Good Luck

Paris Perfect has tons of apts in the 7th but they are branching out and have lots of offerings in the 5th and other areas now.

We used them last year and were very happy with the service and our apartment. We would use them again without hesitation.

We have also used Paris Perfect several times. As noted the apartments are not inexpensive, but depending upon the time you go, there are seasonal prices and sales that are offered. We found the apartments very nicely decorated, with well equiped kitchens and comfortable furnishings. They have 800 numbers for contact and were very responsive and easy to work with.

I've had great experiences with feelslikehomeinparis.com They have a cooking school also, and if you rent with them, cooking classes are 50% off.

We've used both Paris Perfect and Paris Vacation Apartments and have been happy with both. We prefer Paris Vacation Apartments as they are not as costly and offer excellent customer service.

We've used both of these services with great success. An apartment is the way to go in Paris. All of the apt's(4) we've rented have been on Ile St. Louis and for us the location was perfect.

Good luck and happy planning.

We used Vacations in Paris and were very pleased with their service and with the well-placed apartment we stayed in the the Marais - St Paul area earlier this month:

Only disadvantage was the lack of a lift, requiring plenty of leg-strengthening stair work - particularly with luggage on arrival / departure days!

I have stayed in Parisperfect apts and thought them good but now too highly priced for me. Lately I have used PerfectlyParis, who specialise in the 18th arr which I love. They are very good to deal with and their apts are more reasonably priced. I used VRBO in Nice but I am no longer sure with the crack downs if they 'legit'

Hope this helps

This is a post from 2012. Presumably topped by a spammer.

I wish Fodors would include the date of the original post in the headline.

http://vacationinparis.com/ great service and loved our apartment. No hesitation in using them on next trip. We were last minute and selection was not great so picked an apartment in the 14th. We loved it there.

Tulips, spammer or not. We have a search function. If fodors doesn't want us to bring up an old post they should delete them. Why keep them after a year? I'm just waiting now for the apartment police to come along and admonish us.
