I'm about to make a reservation at MIJE in Paris for early September. I think I've seen and heard that Maubuisson is the best of the three locations, but is that right? Thanks in advance!

I assume MIJE stands for Maisons Internationales des Jeunes et des Etudiants, is that correct?

Not everyone here may actually instantly know the initials.

If so, and assuming it is a youth hostel, you may (or maybe not) get better information on other travel boards such as Thorn Tree.

There are actually some reviews on Tripadvisor... between those, looking at a map (www.mappy.com) and looking at the photos on PagesJaunes.fr, you should be able to decide...

Thanks - - yes, I've read the tripadvisor reviews and looked on Thorntree, but as people have posted on this board about staying at MIJE in the past, I hoped to get some fresh opinions here.

For what it's worth, both my Rick Steves and Lonely Planet guidebooks say that Maubuisson is the best of the three. A year ago when I booked a room online there was no option for choosing a specific hostel. I took my chances and was assigned to Fourcy. It was a fine place to stay. Unless things have changed on the site, if you want to request Maubuisson, I think you'll need to book over the phone.

I can't speak to the other 2, but Fourcy was nice. Not a great hostel for socializing - more geared to school groups, but the facility was clean, central and had both internet access and free small locker storage for valuables.

I used to book my college bike tours into the Maubisson - one of four really neat old houses in the Marais area - superb location - but that said even though we booked into Maubisson some of us inevitably ended up in the Fourcy and that was fine too - we all ate at the Maubisson - MIJE i believe is a city-run thing. As for the four locations, they all practically abut each other - the Maubisson is the nicest looking on the outside and the flagship one.

I remember when Le Fauconnier was considered the best of the bunch. At least that's what all my old Let's Go Paris guides said. The TA reviews (few as there are) would still make me lean toward Le Fauconnier.
Looking at the MIJE web site, though, the double rates seem pretty expensive for what you get. If you are traveling with another person, you could find a double hotel room for that rate.
