I rented an apartment from this agency about 5 years ago. The agency is legit. The particular apartment we rented we were not happy with. It was on the low end of the budget 500 euros for the week. The apt. needed updating and cleaning. The main issue was the bathroom was not clean and had mildew. That being saidI had no particular problems with the process of the rental, all went smoothly in that regard. There are other agencies that I prefer. vacationinparis;vrbo;home away;http://www.beau-paris.com/ are a few.

It certainly sounds legit. I have never heard of any place that was not legitimate that set up an entire agency and website, have you? Or drafted French rental documents. The only cases I've heard of that were scams were people putting ads on those websites like VRBO where anybody can advertise.

Thank you both for your replies. I am feeling a little more confident, trouble is many of the blogs etc about scams refers to emails sent with spelling mistakes. My last few correspondences with the company have resulted in emails with multiple spelling mistakes and I just got a little spooked having already transferred the deposit! I am trying to figure out a way of sending them a message to ask them about it that would not offend them if they are legitimate.....

I'm guessing the spelling mistakes are due to the fact that English is not their first language! Unless you're talking about French spelling mistakes, and if so, I am impressed that you picked them up. ;-)

Glad you're feeling better about it.

Hi. My friend and I rented Rue du Cloitre Notre Dame - apt #17 from PBAPOI in 2007. The booking process confused us a bit at first, but basically we sent the commission to the agency and the rental deposit by bank transfer to the owner's account. The apartment and the location were great. The rental ageny was fine.

At the risk of being long-winded, I'll tell you about an incident that occurred in the apartment while we were there and how it was handled, so you can feel more reassured.

One night we came home from a concert to find that the apartment had been flooded due to some plumbing work in another apt in the building. There was a note from the PBAPOI representative that said she had taken away the rugs, bedding!, etc., to be laundered and cleaned and that she would have a cleaning crew completely clean up, but that the water in the building had been turned off until the leak was repaired -- expected to be 1 more day. We tried calling the cell phone number she had left but it was turned off.

So we knew that we couldn't stay there, but it was 9:45 PM. and drizzling. Luckily, I remembered that the enormous hospital (Hotel-Dieu) just a block away had a tiny hotel and I was able to call them, and they had a room. So we grabbed overnight stuff and dashed -- did I mention it was drizzling?

After that everything went fine. Next morning we met the rep back at the apartment. She said the agency would pay for the hotel -- which it did. But she was not too happy when we told her the price. So she said she would find us a hotel for the next night. We said to make it 2 nights because we didn't want to spend any more time out of our trip coming back to the apt just to find out it wasn't ready yet. She agreed to that, so we gave her our requirements for a hotel room -- not too many stairs, 2 beds, etc., and we ended up in a simple, quiet hotel in the Marais for the 2 nights. Paid for by the agency. And we got to explore a different neighborhood.

So the event turned out OK in the end. Communication on the first night should have been better. If the rep planned to turn off her phone -- she was at a play -- since she had not been able to talk to us and didn't know how late we would be getting home, she should have left another number of someone who could help us that first night. I believe that was an oversight by this particular rep. But otherwise, the agency came through and all the other aspects of the problem were handled very well.

This is now a funny trip story we tell.

So have a good time and enjoy your Paris apartment.

Thanks Sunny, We are looking forward to our trip now with good confidence,
I guess anything can happen as in your experience, and as travelers we understand that sometimes plans get disrupted, glad you can laugh about it now! But its terrific to know that the company is legit.
cheers
Marcelle
