Paris apartment rental

We found an apartment we like listed both by the owner on TA and on Cobblestone Paris Rentals. Would like to get your opinion of renting directly from an owner (who is highly rated) versus renting from an agency. Also, how about some recommendations of rental agencies. We are looking in the St Germain/Latin Quarter area on the Left Bank and possibly the Lourve area on the Right Bank.
Thank you

I can see no downsides to dealing directly with the owner. Often the Agency only acts as a broker, and does not really manage the apartment, plus they add a sometimes hefty fee. If something goes wrong, it will probably be the owner that comes fix the problem anyway.

If the owner is an absentee landlord, it may be a different kettle of fish. Why don't you contact the owner directly. Do that first, before you contact the Agency.

My favorite rental agency forParis is Vacation in Paris.Youpay in US dollars by credit card, there is no security deposit, there is a $150 key deposit that you get back as a credit on your card the very day they receive the keys back, you have the keys before you leave home so no waiting around for an agent . There is a local contact number if you need it. The apts least hte ones I have rented are in great areas ANd well equipped

Individual short term rentals to tourists not legal
Many scammers tax cheats on the boards
TA vrbo craigslist even a few here.
And city officials are cracking down BIG fines.
Many good agencies that take credit cards
I always use them. Nice hotels usually the
better more cost-effective play.Recently for me
booking.com
ihg.com
franceby.com
parisbestlodge.com

I NEVER wire money always pay with CC
