Paris after midnight
I plan to be in Paris in September overnight waiting for a flight back to the U.S. in the morning. But I don't want to just get a hotel room. I'd rather just go into the city and stay up all night. Is that a feasible plan? I do speak some French. Where can I go after 2 a.m.?

Week day or week end?
The RER from the airport stops at ~midnight, starts at ~5 AM
Walking along Seine is not a terrible way to spend the time. Go to the bridges. Walk from Notre dame to Eiffel on Left Bank, cross over and repeat on Right bank. I would not go down to the river.
There was video posted here recently of someone wandering St Germain late hours.

Just returned from my trip. I did spend the night sort of wandering around. But I ended up spending from 9 pm until dawn in the Latin Quarter, where I was most comfortable from previous trips. I stumbled upon Le Caveau de la Huchette, which had excellent jazz and an incredible history. But it was only open until about 2 am. After that I wandered around a little, but things pretty much closed down. I spent the rest of the night/morning in the only cafe open in the area, at the end of the "Boul Mich" near the Seine. The only place in that area that I found that still had people. It worked out for me.

I could recommend Aux Trois Mailletz http://www.lestroismailletz.fr/ It is a club just across the Seine from Notre Dame that has a really high energy show in the cellar that starts around 11:00 and lasts until around 05:00. Lots of singing and dancing on the tables that will keep you awake and happy all night.
We take it in every time we are in Paris, and walking out and crossing the Petit Pont as the sky lightens and the city starts to wake up is something really special, IMHO.

I think it is absolutely feasible. From CDG you can get easily to Gare du Nord by RER if they still run at this hour (possible). From here you can walk to a number of areas that stay up all night. Pigalle is close but might be seedy a bit (still safe). There are probably a few places at Canal St-Martin that are open all night. And of course, the Bastille-Oberkampf-Republique triangle is always lively.
Of course, you could get to these places by taxi at night and take the RER back to the airport in the morning. Try to get a double seat and you'll have the best flight back!
