Paris -Where to Stay (with aging parent)?

We are looking to travel to Paris in Sept/Oct and will be bringing my 74 year old father. He will not be able to walk extensively and we will want to stay where it is convenient to see many of the major attractions without too much hassle. After looking around the Internet a bit, I am considering the following: Relais Christine - 6th Arr., Pavillon de la Reine - 3rd Arr. and St. James Paris - 15th Arr. Any comments as to where we will be best served to stay or other suggestions of hotels or areas? Thanks!

Would eliminate the one in the 15th - too far away, and not a "charming neighborhood". The other two are terrific choices.

Both the the Relais Christine and the Pavillon de la Reine have been praised in this forum, if you do a Search here you should find them.
Both of them have excellent locations, and the Pavillon is in a particularly charming area, one of my favorites, but it is slightly less central than the other, not far removed though.
I would also add that the Relais is closer to a metro stop, but your dad may not be a good candidate for the metro as they require lots of walking through corridors and especially up and down stairs.

Kim, sounds like you have some good options for lodging. Based on my similar expereince, be certain to discuss in advance with the hotel the availability of elevator/list to ALL floors, and request a room close to the lift.
Also, echo Elaine's caution about transport via Metro. The endless stairs and transfer corridors proved a huge obstacle for my own mobiity-limited parent. We had good luck with a small (i.e., minivan rater than a bus) tour arranged through our hotel. The driver picked us up at the hotel, dropped us off at major "sights" and returned to collect us after a while. It was a great way to do it.
Bonne chance!

Perhaps there's more than one, but there's a Saint James in the 16th arrondisement which is a deluxe, small four-star hotel. It's not near anything much, even for the 16th it's at the end of the metro line at Porte Dauphine, but there might be a bus line also, I really don't know. It's not central at all, though, and even the metro line is limiting as you'll probably have to transfer a lot at CDG/Etoile. I'd choose a more central location with better public transportation options (ie, lines that go in several directions).
Hi, Kim: We (selves, 10 yr old daughter, 70 yr old mother) stayed at Relais Christine last July. The staff was as lovely as the hotel, and I think would help you in any way they could, should you choose that location.
Point of info in case steps are difficult for your father: One enters the hotel via a courtyard, and we stayed in rooms 1 and 2, which join by an entry "room" which has a level (no steps) separate door to that courtyard entrance to the hotel. One room had a large bed with shower&tub bath, the lav was off the foyer, and the other bedroom (up one or two steps from the foyer room) had 2 twins and its own bath & tub/shower. The twin room had a door that led to the reception area; I don't remember if there were steps immediately or not.
If you chose not to try for these rooms, then as I recall there were probably about 5 steps from the courtyard into the hotel.
Hope this info isn't overkill. Have fun!
