Paris- help with RER
I'm doing my best to understand the RER map, but I still have a question. I'm trying to figure out how to get from Charles de Gaulle aiport to Asnieres (where my hotel is) and how much it'll cost. I read in another forum the best way is to take the blue RER to Gare du Nord, walk thru the station to the Magenta, take it to Gare St. Lazare and then get on the train to Asnieres. But how much will this cost?
I will be arriving in Paris on a Tuesday and leaving on a Tuesday, so a total of 8 days. I had planned to get two Zone 1-3 Paris Visite passes- one for 5 days (for Tue-Sat) and one for 2 days (for Sun-Mon) since the 8th day, Tuesday, I'll only be going to the airport and won't be traveling. My plan was to pay for individual tickets from the airport to my hotel & then back to the airport and I'm trying to figure out how much it'll cost and if this is the best way to do it. Jumping from a Zone 1-3 to Zone 1-5 Visite pass increases quite a bit in cost, so I don't want to do that. There must be a cheaper way. I do know I have to take the train to Asnieres, not the metro.
If I buy an idividual ticket from the airport, how far will that get me? Only 1 stop on the RER? Is a carnet of tickets for the metro only? Or the RER? Please help! I'm sure there's a simple answer... Thanks!

Have you tried using the ininerary finder at the www.ratp.com site?

Would you please divulge the address of your hotel? and do you mean Asnieres-sur-Seine? There is a metro stop at end of line 13 in the general area, and RER-C1 has a stop at "les Gresillions" in the general area.
Also, you might consider taking Bus# 54 from Gare du Nord; it's last stop is Gabriel Peri, in Asnieres.
Have you considered the Carte Orange pass which is still available on Tuesday for use from Tues-Sunday? a 5-zone pass is 31€.

Whoa! Asnières-sur-Seine is in Zone 3, so a 5-zone <i>Carte Orange</i> for your daily commute would be a waste of money.
Better to buy a 3-zone. That, plus a ticket from CDG to Le Blanc Mesnil (to get you from Zone 5 to Zone 3) will get you from airport to hotel Tuesday.
Monday, you would have to buy single tickets to Paris and back for 2.05€; you might find that a <i>Mobilis</i> pass at 7.15€ will suit you better (depending on how many rides you take that day).
Tuesday, I think you're just stuck. You'll have to buy a ticket all the way to CDG for 9.90€.
Better to buy a 3-zone. That, plus a ticket from CDG to Le Blanc Mesnil (to get you from Zone 5 to Zone 3) will get you from airport to hotel Tuesday.
Monday, you would have to buy single tickets to Paris and back for 2.05€; you might find that a <i>Mobilis</i> pass at 7.15€ will suit you better (depending on how many rides you take that day).
Tuesday, I think you're just stuck. You'll have to buy a ticket all the way to CDG for 9.90€.

IMHO, Robespierre has given you the best options. For the Carte Orange you will need a color photograph (passport-sized or smaller). Within Paris (zones 1-2) an individual ticket is good on the metro, the RER, SNCF trains, and the bus. Whichever pass you buy, the same is true for all zones the pass covers.

The address to the hotel is 10 Bis Rue du Chateau, Asnieres, Paris. It's called Hotel Wilson. I believe it is Asnières-sur-Seine. I need to take the train from Gare St. Lazare to Asnieres... its the gray colored line. I apologize for my ignorance... all of this is still new to me and will probably make sense once I do it. Is that gray line still considered a RER or SNCF? Its not labeled with a number or letter.
Am I understanding correctly that the Carte Orange Zone 3 pass will get me unlimited travel Tue-Sun on the metro, bus and SNCF within those 3 zones?
When you say a ticket to CDG is 9.90 euro. How did you figure that out? When I try to enter an intinerary on ratp.fr, it keeping telling me certain elements need to be better specified. I guess I'm not sure what to enter here.

I know I have a million questions that could be summed up in about 10 minutes and I'm afraid that I'll drive you & everyone crazy if I try to ask them all on here.

I think the double lines with white in between are SNCF.
The thick solid colored ones are RER.
The thinner solid colored ones are Metro.
If you look at the lower left of the map, there's a legend.
But I'm not an expert on this.

Is getting a Carte Orange pass difficult? Where do you buy it? It isn't mentioned on ratp.fr- only the Visite is listed. I don't know any French. Is there paper work to fill out and then you submit a photo along with it? Or do they hand you a ticket and you do it yourself?
Ratp.fr lists a single ticket as being 1.40 euro... yet earlier you said a single ticket was 2.05. What's the difference?
Also, the Mobilis you mentioned isn't listed on the website. Where do I buy it? I do think I'll be traveling quite a bit on Monday, so it'd make sense to buy this over single tickets. I'm assuming its unlimited travel on the Metro, RER and SNCF... so it'll get me to & from my hotel in Zone 3 to the center of Paris.

Both the Mobilis and the Carte Orange are not on the English version of the RATP site, but they are on the French version. The English version promotes the Paris Visite pass.
Any pass--Paris Visite, Carte Orange, Mobilis--is good on the metro, RER, SNCF trains, and trams for the zones covered by the pass.
