Paris - Need options for hotel with teenage son
My husband and I will be in Paris Jan26-Feb 2 and have had this romantic get-away planned for several months.
At present we have hotel reservations at the Pavillon Opera Bourse for 3 nights to be near our adult son and his new bride (non-experienced travelelers) who have a loft rented for the week in the 9th. Once initiated to how to use the metro, etc. we were turning them loose to enjoy their honeymoon except to host an occasional, "out-of-their budget" special dinner or two. DH and I were then spending the remaining 4 nights at Le Regent (140 euros) in our preferred area, St. Germain.
Things have become a little more complicated since our 19 year old son (who has traveled before on his own to Amsterdam) has decided to join us. We have changed the first hotel reservation to a room for three (at 145 euros), but definintely do NOT want to share one the remaining 4 days obviously (remember this was originally intended to be romantic!).
With the drop of the dollar and cost of an additional person we want to minimize our hotel costs. I'm a little stymied as to which is most economical, get him a room around the corner at Hotel St. Andre des Arts for around 65 euros or get something like a suite with adjoining rooms--I don't even know what this is called in French, certainly not "une chambre a 3 personnes"...and then there's the paper thin walls in these older "hotels de charme"...while we aren't exactly Tarzan and Jane, we certainly aren't Shrinking Violets either. C'est plutot genant, n'est-ce pas?
Any advice on solving this delema and what hotels have special arrangements for a 2 +1 would be appreciated.

check www.rentparis.com for an apartment...maybe you can get a seperate bedroom and sofa bed in the livingroom (apartment #2 at 20 rue Chapon may do the trick)....at least you will have some privacy

I don't know a lot of hotels that have special rooms that connect a double and a single, maybe someone else will. However, the pricing I've viewed on that kind of thing gives no discount for them being connecting -- the same prices as booking a double and single. Your son is 19 years old and shouldn't need a connecting room to his parents. Get him another cheap single room somewhere else, in the same hotel or near it. St Andre des Arts sounds like an okay idea for him. There are a couple other very cheap hotels around there also, like the 1* Delhy's or maybe Hotel Nesle.
I don't think you'll save money on getting a connecting room, but even if a little bit for your big long-awaited trip to Paris, I'd think getting rid of your teenage son... priceless

If he's not too particular, I'd opt for that idea of his own room at Hotel St. Andre des Arts around the corner, which from my experience seeing the people coming and going, I'd imagine it is much of his age guests. At least he'd have his own bath and you'll all have your own privacy, yet literally be just around the corner. I can't imagine a triple or adjoining living room that is going to fill the bill for you.
By the way, I love Le Regent, but you do know that the standard room you've reserved is VERY tiny, right?

Hello,
The problem is that if you want an arrangement with 2+1, you have to book a double room and a single room, to have a connecting room, and it will be expensive.
I know the hotel du Continent (in the 1 district) have connecting rooms but you have to book a standard and a Supérieure room, and precise that you want them to be connected. Their website is: http://www.hotel-du-continent.com/
I advise you to book a triple room at the hotel de l'Exposition**, in the 10th district (72 euros) or a double (56 euros) and a single room (49 euros)and precise in your reservation that you want them to be near. I know that this hotel is cheaper on the internet.Rooms are very clean and big. Their website is: www.hotel-exposition.com
I hope I've helped you!
