It is part of the Bon Marche department store
think of Paris's version of Harrod's Food Halls in London

what did you want to know?

It's a wonderful gourmet market-- foods from France (and some from the U.K. too) on the shelves and large glass cases with all sorts of delicacies and pastries. You can buy things for a picnic lunch or for entertaining all your friends at a cocktail party with the greatest of ease.

Similar shops in Paris are Fauchon and Hédiard, near the Madeleine church.

The apartment we stayed in July on rue de Bac was a 2 minute walk to this fantastic gourmet supermarket. My son would get our croissant's each morning and return to the apartment. We'd sit in front of the large double windows overlooking a fabulous private park each morning....very expensive but fabulous fruit and vegetables. Rue Jean Nicot 7eme has wonderful food shops and are much cheaper

Ah, one of my favorite Paris haunts. We always go there, even if it is out of the way. Wonderful selection of foods, wines, and decent prices on champagnes. Great place for gifts as well - prepackaged chocolates, teas, mustards, etc. Also a great place to pick up those things you forgot - toothpaste etc. We always have a picnic lunch in the park across the street from the main department store.

Is the Grand Epicerie in the same building, or is it across the street? (which street?). I walked into le Bon Marche to see what the buzz was about, but am not interested in what looked like a very modern, chi-chi style department store. Two shopgirls did not seem to know what I meant when I asked about the ceiling, but I certainly might have made my request poorly. I walked around to what looked like the main area and looked up, saw a black/white glass ceiling. Was that it? Nothing to compare to Galeries Lafayette...
It was so overheated in there that I had to escape, so never saw the Epicerie. Also, in October, they were tearing up the park and/or a street so it was not attractive and added to my disappointment.

The Epicerie is absolutely fantastic - even just to walk around and admire the presentation and selection. I thought that the Food Halls in Harrods were nothing in comparison to the Epicerie.

The Grande Epicerie is a separate building to the left of the main dept. store. I think there is a small narrow street between the two. I never heard that the ceiling of Bon Marche was supposed to be anything special.

There isn't a park across from it that I remember, the park is to the right side (probably east at that point) of the main Bon Marche dept. store. It is Square Boucicaut and right near the metro entrances.

Thanks, Christina, I think I was oriented incorrectly to the layout then. Will look for the Grand Epicerie again, might find it next time.
