Paris - Hotel St. Germain

Has anyone stayed here? If so, how did you like it? My sister and I will be in Paris in August for 2 days/2 nights and are looking for a cute, quaint, hotel in a central location.

We don't have much time (2 days) so I've compiled a list below of things we'd like to see. Let me also say that this trip we will not be getting into museums as we just don't have the time.

Here is our list:

Marais area
Notre Dame
Eiffel Tower
possibly pass by the Louvre
Arc De Triomphe
Avenue Des Champs Elysees
do lots of walking
enjoy the St. Germain area
Le Bon Marche

We are looking to stay in either the 5th or 6th as that is probably the most central (at least I think). We will be arriving via train from Avignon and flying out of CDG.

We are looking for quaint, not modern ... this hotel seemed quaint.

Also, not sure if this hotel is the 5th or 6th or neither??

How would you rate staying in this area for a 1st time visitor to paris (for only 2 days/2 nights)?

I've been reading all the *Paris* posts on Fodors and it's extremely overwhelming. So much to do, things to see, places to stay ... yikes!

To sum it up we are more into shopping (not the high end shopping), Eiffel Tower, quaint coffee shops/bistros, pastry shops (yes, we love our sweets) and artsy stuff.

Thanks!!

The hotel is in the 6th district on rue du Bac which is a very nice street with some nice shops. I believe at least one or two people from Fodors have stayed here. Have you checked the comments at Trip Advisor? I saw the rates and find that they are overpriced. Mostly I think you're paying for the location.

There are other cheaper alternatives in the 6th district:

Hotel Le Clement
Hotel du Pas de Calais
Hotel de Seine
Hotel des Marronniers

francophile, thanks for the insite. I did do a search on Fodors but Hotel St. Germain seems to pull up everything with St. Germain in it.

I will check out the other hotels you recommended below. In your opinion, is this a good place to stay for 1st time visitors? I'm having a hard time deciding between the 6th and Marais although after reading a gazillion posts on Fodors, I'm leaning more towards the 6th.

Thanks!

Hi katzen,
We are going to Paris next month and have decided to stay at the Hotel St. Jacques. It may meet your needs.

With your list, I want to suggest the segway tour or Fat Tire Bike Tour of Paris. You can wheel by many of the sites you've listed. We are taking the segway day tour and the night bike tour.

No problem, katzen. For Trip Advisor if you enter the hotel's address it'll come up. Here are the comments:
