We fell in love with Spain and enjoyed our stay at the Parador in Toledo! We are returning and going to these destinations, all by public transit, and wondered if anyone has stayed at the paradors and if they are accessible by foot from the cities/villages.

The one in Avila has direct access to the wall. It is small town.

Avila is right in town, Segovia is close enough, Salamanca is too far for me.

Have stayed in the one in Segovia - it's quite nice, great pool. I've also stayed at a hotel right in the old city, and thought that was a better option. Liked being in the city better, as opposed to being so removed at the Parador. I don't think it is accessible by foot - as I recall my sister and I ended up hitching a ride to get to the Parador.

The historic part of Cuenca is not near the train station but a cheap taxi will whisk you up to the parador.. spectacular setting.

Thanks all. SCDreamer, what is the name of the Segovia hotel you liked? We love the old worldness of the paradors and I recall the one in Segovia looks ultra modern?
Great info from all.If you visit the Toledo area, be sure to stay at that Parador, right outside the city walls. It was an experience we will cherish forever.

I never stay at modern paradors like the one in Segovia-what's the point?
I think the best one I've ever stayed in is the one in Cuenca-usually booked up.

The hotel I stayed in was Hotel Infanta Isabel. It was my second time to Segovia - I stayed at the parador the first time.

It's very centrally located, walk out the front and you are near the aquaduct. Much better choice than the parador.

Chapla - I agree regarding the Segovia Parador - it is very modern, has no cultural atmosphere. They do have a pretty cool swimming pool high above the city. We were there in August about six years ago, and the swimming pool was a draw. If you don't have a car, it is a very long way from the city center and I don't think there is any way other than taxis to get there. We hitch-hiked back and forth, definitely didn't fit in with the other guests ...

I too stayed at the Hotel Infanta Isabel. Good hotel in a good location. Bathrooms could use some updating... at least the one I had. Had a room with balcony windows in the front of the hotel facing the Plaza.

Walking out the front door, you are .71km from the aqueduct. The Cathedral is across the Plaza Mayor. And the Alcazar is .75km.
