Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has advice on whether car hire is 'absolutely vital' for a two week holiday in Paphos. I am not a very good driver and wd really rather not drive but friends have said that without a car, the troodos mountains are almost out of bounds. Are excursions very expensive? Also, is it cheaper to pre-book a car in the UK instead of taking it out there? Are buses reliable?
Any advice is most appreciated.

It depends what you want to do. Public transport is frequent and cheap; but not necessarily into the Troodos. If that's a UK address driving is easy- on the left- same rules as here. Traffic is not heavy by comparison with here. Roads are badly paved and there is a bit of a tendency to play "chicken" for the piece of tarmac in the middle.
Masses of excursions. I don't think they're expensive but I don't really know.
Car Hire is ubiquitous and the quality is awful. I would want the security of one of the big firms behind me. But if you're only hiring for the odd day, do it there.
Have you found www.cosmosnet.net/azias/cyprus/c-tour.html?
It's very good.
No
Thanks Sheila. No I havent been to the site you mentioned.
A few guide books seem to suggest that a 'cruise' to Egypt is not worth the bother and money. Any opinion?
Thanks again.
Jason
Never did it. The opportunity to book three day cruises which do Egypt and Israel is ubiquitous. No real opinion, tho'
