In a word, paper!

Nothing wrong with an e-ticket unless something goes wrong with the flight. With a paper ticket you won't have to stand in line to get a paper ticket issued so you can be sent to another carrier to be rerouted. Otherwise, no big advantage or disadvantage.

Ed

As long as you get a written confirmation for your E-ticket, it is better than a paper ticket. If you lose your paper ticket, none of your options are really great. You'll probably be required to buy another ticket and file for a refund for the lost ticket. I don't think the airline will issue you a replacement ticket on the spot. There's no way to lose an E-ticket.

Presuming you do not lose paper the ticket or forget to bring the correct ID needed to retrieve the e-ticket, they are the same on a route that has no chance of having to change the carrier as Ed indicated, especially on a direct flight.

While many of my friends automatically get e-tickets for any travel, I evaluate trade offs for routes involving multiple carriers and multiple possible routes. This is especially painful if you need to change the carrier on later segment who does not have a rep at the airport you want to change the flight.

I have saved my buns with a paper ticket on a business flight when the carrier decided to cancel the flight on a whim and had only time to run to an althernate flight on a different airline without having to wait in line on the original airline to issue a paper ticket.

I would definately get a paper ticket. My husband and I had a major problem at the Munich airport since we had e tickets and the United ticket agent never ticketed the reservation. We were on a code share Luftahnsa flight. We had no proof of payment and had to purchase tickets on the spot to go to Frankfurt. We nearly missed our flight after trying to clear up the mess at the Luftahnsa ticket counter. I would be safe and get paper tickets. I use e tickets for domestic travel and only paper tickets for international.
