We want to spend a couple of days in Palma before heading to the small villages. We like walking distance to the old city. Can anyone suggest a good reasonably priced hotel? Last time we stayed at the Hotel Mirador and liked the location but not the hotel.

When are you going? We'll be there in May and are staying at the TRYP Palma. We haven't stayed there before, but it was recommended to us by some Mallorcan friends. A couple of things - it is located in downtown Palma, near Plaza de Espana, so you wouldn't be in a touristy spot nor along the water like Mirador. However, it is a very nice walk of about 15-20 minutes through the pedestrian shopping district (Sant Miquel, Cort, Pl. Mayor) to get to the Cathedral and environs. Prices are reasonable (when we booked around 100-200 euros), and they have a special weekend rate since they mostly cater to business travelers. Depending on when you're planning to travel, I can let you know how it goes in a couple of months!
Hope this helps.
We are also staying at the Tryp Palma the second week of April. I did a lot of research on tripadvisor.com and it seemed to be the best blend of what we were looking for: convenient, comfortable, and affordable. Will let you know when we get back.
Hi jstutz99, I'll be looking forward to reading about your experience at Tryp Palma, since we'll be there about a month after you. Happy traveling!
We're going in June. Anyone else have good experience with TRYP Palma?
Hi! Just came back from Mallorca and stayed in the Tryp Palma. Really enjoyed it. Our room was new in appearance and was very quiet and clean (with a good shower). The staff was very pleasant and helpful (on our last morning there, Paco, the clerk on duty, held our taxi so we could get in our last espressos that he insisted upon making for us!) Breakfast buffet was decent - nice variety of fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, some meats. We didn't really check out the spa that's available for guest use, but my husband tried the indoor pool and said it was very tiny. We were happy with our stay.
