My husband and I are flying into Palermo this September for apx. 5 days of touring the island. We then plan to tour the Almalfi Coast. What is the best way to return to Almalfi from Palermo? By plane or by boat? Is Falcone & Borsellino Sicily's only airport? Any information would be appreciated.
Grazie e tutti

There is no "best" way: there is the "fastest" way, which is to fly from Naples to Palermo; the "most scenic" way, which is to take the train from Salerno to Palermo (takes most of the day, there are two fast Intercity (IC) trains from Salerno); and the "most efficient" way, which is to take the overnight car ferry from Naples to Palermo ("efficient" because it avoids the cost of an overnight hotel room). There is also a very fast catamaran service between Naples and Palermo (4.5 hours) which operates from mid April to mid October, except in rough seas (sometimes referred to as the "Sicilia Jet"). Here is a summary:
1) by train: www.trenitalia.com
2) by airplane: www.gesap.it (Palermo airport web site)
3) by overnight car ferry: www.tirrenia.it or www.snav.it
4) by day catamaran: www.snav.it
If you take the train from Salerno, you will need to arrive there by either bus or ferry boat, or private limosine from the Amalfi Coast.
If you take the overnight car ferry or the daylight catamaran or the airplane from Naples, you will beed to arrive there by either bus from Amalfi, hydrofoil from Positano, or Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento (or private limosine from your hotel).
