Palazzo Sasso in Ravello
I just saw that Palazzo Sasso was rated as the #8 hotel in the world this year, and # 1 overall in Europe.

Has anyone stayed there before? I might have to consider it for next years trip - this year is already set.

No, I was hoping someone would respond....there is a chance that I will go with friends to this area next year and they might be interested in the hotel or one of the others along those lines.. I keep hoping that it will come to pass, so any input would be welcome.
When I was in Ravello about two years ago, we stopped at Villa Cimbrone and they could not have been nicer in offering a tour of the hotel. Gorgeous is an understatement! Go and have a drink at each of them!
I hope you have a wildly fabulous trip!!

We had cocktails at the Palazzo Sasso a few months ago. Beautiful place! (As is the Caruso which is just down the street.)
Will this be your trip to the Hotel Marincanto? Hope you like it as much as we did. Have a great time.

Yes it is my trip to the Marincanto. I'm so looking forward to this. I'm up in Bellagio now and I was awestruck by the beauty of Lake Como! I'm thinking though I might be in for a heart attack when I see Positano and the rest of the AC.

I did not rent a car. I am here in Como until Sunday. I'm staying in Bellagio - I've gone back and read past reviews and trip reports and others recommendations. I went to La Punta tonight, which was really good.
I still would like recommendations if you got them!
As for heart medicine, luckily I'm still young enough that I don't have any heart problems (33). But yes, I'm pretty lucky to be able to be here and spend 27 days in Italy.
As for the weather - its been beautiful - until tonight. As I was walking back to the Hotel Belvedere, it started to pour outside. Probably going to rain again tomorrow, but it will not dampen my mood. My hotel supposedly has a nice spa.. so if it rains..hmmm.. I might be there.

C.: The place I liked the best requires a car, or a ferry/bus trek from Bellagio.
But in Bellagio, a walk of about 20 minutes from your hotel, will take you to Silvio where I had a very good lunch. They will pick you up if you call them but the walk is lovely...unless it is dreary outside...

Hi again:
The Trattoria San Giacomo on Salita Serbelloni (at the top of the Salita) has very good food. If in Varenna, the Hotel du Lac serves lunch on the terrace with a fantastic view of the lake. You can also eat poolside the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. Have a drink on the lakeside terrace at the Hotel Florence.
Just wait until you see the view from the terrace at the Marincanto...

Ravello is one of my favorite places to visit and have been there 5 or 6 times since 2002. Palazzo Sasso is lovely ... it has a restaurant that is supposed to be incredible, but I always stay at Hotel Caruso next door to Palazzo Sasso... Hotel Caruso is one of my favorite hotels. There is such a difference when you walk into both properties, Caruso has incredible frescoes/marble and my favorite infinity edge pool overlooking the Amalfi Coastline. Palazzo Sasso is a beautiful luxury property, but i don't personally care for their public space or sleeping rooms.

My husband and I stayed at Palazzo Sasso during our honeymoon in early September. It was a wonderful experience. Honestly, for the money though, there were some aspects in which I preferred the hotel we stayed at immediately prior -- Bellevue Syrene in Sorrento, which is not nearly has highly rated. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms at Palazzo Sasso, which was nothing special (other than the antique furnishings, Bulgari toiletries, and amazing shower). The in-room wi-fi was down the entire time we were there. Also, we couldn't get our tv to work and had to place three different calls to the front desk before it was revealed that our remote didn't have batteries. While those aren't major issues by any means, it is annoying to pay over $700 night and not have certain basic amenities that one could find at your average Hilton Garden Inn. It just seemed ironic that we stayed at three different hotels during our Italy trip, and though Palazzo Sasso was by far the most expensive, it was the only place where we didn't have decent internet access. Despite the minor annoyances, I would go back in a heartbeat. The views are simply stunning, and Sasso on the Sea (the private beach 20 minutes away) is heaven. Any shortcomings the rooms may have is made up for by the beauty of the outside areas. Photos really don't do it justice.

Interesting comments. I would be annoyed as well. They do have one free computer in the business center (upstairs above the reception desk) but that is no consolation if you needed wireless in your room and it did not work.
