Palazzo Colonna or Doria Pamphilij Which One?

If you were limited on time and had to choose between the two art galleries and apartments which would it be? What would be more appealing to you and why? Thanks in advance for info on these two sights.

Only been to Pamphilj. Went on a Saturday when they included a musical tour with a chamber group playing an appropriate piece in each gallery, plus a short sit down concert. Also included was admission and a recorded tour thing. Bought tickets from home on line. The palace itself has some really good art covering the walls and the magnificent portrait of Pope Innocent.

Isn't Palazzo Colonna only open on Saturdays? I would love to go but haven't yet. I did really enjoy Pamphilj. Really nice art and I liked the audioguide....kind of an oasis in the craziness of Rome.

They are both great. PAmphilj has more art by famous artists (Caravaggio, Velazquez, Bernini, etc) if that is an interest.

AJPeabody--Did you find out about the musical tour from their website?

Denisea--Yes Palazzo Colonna is only open on Saturdays and it has an art gallery and apartments and I think a garden to view. Whereas Doria Pamphilij has apartments and a tremendous art gallery from what I am reading. Not sure if we should try to do both or pick one only and if so which one.

PhillyFan--Thanks. How much time did you spend in both?

Thanks all for your feedback so far.

Most would head to the Doria-Pamphilij just to see the stone bench depicting a man being buggered by a ram!

Some great Brueghel's and the smashing Velázquez pope on view. However, it is rather tedious about the way the collection is hung chock-a-block on the walls.

And who wants to look at the old tatty 1957 furniture of the family on display? Really, darling, this isn't Blenheim Palace. Nobody wants to look at b/w photos of Marie Doria-P having tea with Lady Iris Mountbatten. Blech!
