So our chorale is going on a trip this march Here is the itinerary.
Day 1: Flight
Day 2 Arrive in Munich, board motor coach to Vienna
Day 3: Schönbrunn Palace.
Day 4: Leave Vienna, Stop at Mondsee, then to Salzburg (Salzburg Dom performance, Sound of Music guided tour,Dinner at Mozert Dinner concert)
Day 5: Motorcoach to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. (Salt mine tour)
Day 6: Motorcoach to Castle Neuschwanstein, HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGES ,then to Dachau(concentration camp memorial), arrive in Munich
Day 7: City tour of Munich...
Day 8: Flight

So I am wondering about clothing ,but particularly shoes, i plan on bringing a pair of leather boots , but I have no walking shoes. I can afford some spendier ones as i have money saved just for them... Also any clothing recommendations or tips at all would be appreciated!!!

No need to buy walking shoes - wear whatever you do at home when you need comfortable shoes to go for a walk! Trainers will be fine Bring a fleece/jacket for the mine and horsedrawn carriages, comfy clothes for the coaches and maybe one nice outfit for the dinner.

Hi nicmcdown,

I would advise you to bring layers that you can use and wear together for colder days. I recommend a long-sleeve t-shirt for next to your skin, then a light-weight sweater, then a cardigan or polartek vest, then a raincoat. It can still be cold in March, especially if you'll be outside for a few hours at night looking at the sights. On warmer days or while on the bus, you can just wear one or two of the layers.

For shoes, I would recommend that everything you bring is waterproof, as there can be lots of rain in March. Trainers would be ok if they are waterproof. My favorite walking shoe is a low hiker by Solomon that looks just like sneakers/trainers. It is waterproof.

I think the advice to use what you have is good--I am assuming you are a young person--and going on a wonderful trip. Not knowing what part of the country you are from, you might want some warm wool socks to have along. Whatever you do about your shoes, if getting new ones. BREAK THEM IN--one reason to use what you have.

Smartwool socks. I always take a packable down jacket. I have one that stuffs into the pocket and then an outer waterproof shell. Leather Boots, spray with waterproof spray. The euro is so good right now. Germany has great shoes. Buy a pair there. Layers and a scarf. Busy schedule.

I think a good pair of walking shoes is a good idea, actually. Being on tour and walking a lot isn't the same as just going for a walk at home (unless you routinely hike for miles). Trainers (AKA sneakers) would be fine if not flimsy fashion ones. This is only about a 7 day trip, after all, and it doesn't sound like there will be all that much walking, comparatively.

Germany does have good shoes but the OP isn't going there till day 5 and doesn't look like much free time. But that is a resort town (Garmisch Partenkirchen) and does have clothing/shoe shops

I'm sure you'll have a great time. I went on a similar trip a few years ago and we enjoyed it very much, especially singing in the Salzburg Dom. AS for clothes, just take what you'd wear at home for wet/changeable spring weather. no need to go to town - and they do have shops!

Thanks all of you for your help, we are bringing matching windbreakers to help find each other at airports, and to wear while performing. I just have some questions, the only sneakers i have are actual Tennis (like the game with the racquet) shoes.... idk if they will work? They are also bright red.

You are young and you will find people wear everything. I was just thinking about rain and slush.

I will repeat that imo you should bring water-proof shoes. There's no problem with the style of tennis shoes or the color red -- but if they get wet, you may be in them for hours, and it'll take more than overnight for them to dry.

Be sure to pack something nice to wear at the Dom and the Mozart Dinner. Jeans and trainers would not be the most appropriate wear for either venue. Salt mines are fairly dirty, wear shoes you can clean the muck off of.

Well, I'm assuming that the OP will have concert gear with her if they are singing in the Salzburger Dom. That will probably do for the Dinner as well, perhaps with a different top.

Don't worry about jeans and red tennis shoes. They will be okay for your whole trip, even for the concerts. And the salt mine is fairly clean. Believe me, I am a native.
