Should I drive from London to Oxford on a Friday, or a Saturday? I would like to visit Oxford & it's attractions when it's less crowded. And don't want to be stuck in traffic too much

Take the train or coach from London if what you want to see is in the town. The center is walking distance from both.

Is this a day trip or are you staying one or more nights? That might effect which day would be better to arrive.

Are you going elsewhere after Oxford? If not, don't drive, take the train or a bus. Much easier. Parking/driving in Oxford id a bit of a pain.

Both days will be about equal unless there is some special event on.

If you do end up driving, don't attempt to drive into the city center. Park at either the Thornhill or Pear Tree park and ride lot and take the bus into the city.

Oxford to Gloucester is a two hour drive. You could do it by train via Birmingham New Street in about 2h20m and then train direct from Gloucester to London Paddington in 1hr 50m

All on the same day or are you staying over in both Oxford and Gloucester? They really are not near each other - a 90 minute drive is typical.

Why not tell us your whole itinerary - where you are coming from and headed to in how many days. Then we can help you out. Can't really give helpful suggestions w/o more details.

I only have two full days in London. The first day, I will be going around tower of London, & major attractions. The second day, thinking of renting a car, and going to oxford.

So if I've understood this correctly, you want to do a day trip to Oxford (and Gloucester?) from London. Makes absolutely no sense to hire a car for this, so take the train to Oxford as others have said. You would struggle to fit in Gloucester unless you like very long days.

Then you probably don't have time for EITHER Oxford or Gloucester.

Maybe tell us more. Are you arriving on a long haul flight or just over from the continent?

Which 'major attractions' are you planning on seeing in London? The Tower of London alone requires half a day - and if you count travel time, and food/shopping . . . More than half a day. So you could maybe fit in <i>one</i> other major site and a couple of 'walk by's'.

If you've been to London before and IF you only want to see the Tower and one other major attraction - you <i>could</i> do a day trip to Oxford by train.

Forget about driving. Assuming you went out to LHR to collect your car - just the drive to Oxford, on to Gloucester, and back to LHR would take 5+ hours. That isn't counting the bus ride from/to the Oxford Park and Ride. Leaving almost no time to see anything. Gloucester Cathedral closes to visitors at 6PM so you wouldn't get there in time to visit.

My flight is the next day at 9pm.....so basically, I'll be staying in Oxford overnight

I'm a bit confused. Are you arriving on day 1 and leaving at 9PM day 2; Or - arriving on day 1 and have that partial day plus two more days and leave at 9PM on day 3?

Or something else?

If you are in Oxford the day you are flying out at 9PM you will need to leave Oxford by 5 PM at - by express coach. If you are driving you'll have to leave Oxford by 4-ish PM to allow time to return the car and take the shuttle bus to the terminal. Meaning leaving central Oxford around 3:30 to get to the car at the park and ride.

I will be joining a tour around britain for 6 days...

I have 3 days remaining, with my flight on the 3rd day.
