Hello,

Any suggestion for an overnight trip from London the first week in November. Seems most tour companies stop in October. I am assuming rain.
Any help is appreciated.

i would suggest going to Oxford and stopping there for a night. There should be a few companies offering tours of the Cotswolds even in November and you have a wet-weather option if the rain does put you off touring.

Or you could go to Bath and take a day trip w/ Mad Max

Or you could take the train to Moreton-in-Marsh, tale local buses to nearby villages and explore on your own

I took the Secret Cottage tour from Moreton-in-Marsh and had a really nice time. Didn't think I was really a "tour-taker" but really enjoyed my day. And I ate very well.

If you plan to stay overnight, I can recommend the Bell Inn.

Don't know how early the London train travels to Moreton-in-Marsh, but if you can take an early train to Moreton-in-Marsh, you might have time to drop off your bags at the inn, walk back to the rail station to meet the tour, and do the tour that day.

A really nice way to see a lot of the north Cotswolds in a day.

I'm not sure there's much mileage in Cotswold overnighting during early November.

The 0821 train from London gets you into Moreton for the tour ChgoGal recommends. By the time the tour finishes, it'll be more or less dark: sunset's 1630-ish in the first week of Nov. The 1645 train gets you into London for 1829 (if it's behaving itself): just in time to get to a theatre.

Moreton isn't fun central once it gets dark. If you want to spend a night outside London, the easiest thing is to overnight in Oxford (which usually has a rich variety of classical music concerts and proper theatre, and a surprisingly lively local rock music scene), and is worth going round the following morning or previous afternoon.

Though far from cheap, spending the night in Oxford once the clocks go back can give you a real sense of being in a medieval town: my limited experience of Moreton by night (mostly getting out as fast as poss) is that it gives you a real sense of being in a boring small provincial town. The slightly livelier Cotswold towns with better food, like Burford and Chipping Campden, are a real pain to get to for a night.
