Outdoor activities in Greek Islands

Anne + Gino, Greece will be HOT in August -- I mean REALLY hot. Some islands in the Cyclades can reach temperatures of +40 degrees centigrade (for you Americans that is over 100 degrees). Before you plan all of these activities ask yourself if you are going to be physically able to participate. If you are not used to the heat the temperature of Greece in August can be overwhelming and you will find yourself fighting sun stroke. If you are still set on "lots" of physical activity I would look at going to the Ionian islands (Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakinthos) where the temperature is a bit more forgiving -- meaning about 10 degrees cooler. Plan your activity for the early morning (before 11am) and drinks lots of water (+ 2 litres per person per day).

Also -- Greece in August is packed with tourists! All of Greece vacations (in Greece) in August as to the British, the Germans, and the Italians. If you can somehow wait until after the first of September for your honeymoon you will not have to fight the other tourists and the heat will have started to subside.

I'm a little discouraged by the last reply, but right now we are still planning our trip.

Right now our itinerary includes Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete. We aren't into crowds or parties. We'd really just like some R&R on a nice, quiet beach, and have the opportunity to do some water sports, sightseeing etc...

Anyone have any ideas of how to accomplish this at the hottest, most crowded time of the year???????

Anne
