Our trip to Ireland

My husband and I are taking a guided tour of Ireland in late June. We have never been to the Dublin airport. Any info on arrivals here would be greatly appreciated, such as getting around ! We are being met at Zone 16 by a hotel shuttle, but in trying to read about the airport, I don't see any zones. Where is this located? It looks as if we arrive in Terminal 2 from the USA, then need to get to Terminal 1? Map looks pretty confusing. I assume we need to go through customs? Does this take long? We arrive at 8:40 A.M. and have a shuttle pick-up at 10:30 A.M.. Hope this is a long enough time frame? When we leave, the tour will get us to the airport at 9 A.M. for an 11:20 A.M. flight back to the states. I saw somewhere we could do something in Dublin regarding customs so we don't have to do this when we return to the states? Has anyone done this and does it take long as we don't want to miss our flight! Any info about how to get around this airport would be greatly appreciated.

Its in the Coach park, or bus parking lot, behind Terminal 1, but you can get there quicker by walking directly there from Terminal 2. The map on this page may be clearer than what you have seen:

The pedestrian walks are in blue.

You will need to go through immigration; customs has no formalities.

On the way back, you can go through US customs in Dublin airport. My daughter did it last summer, but said it was a zoo. However, it might be more of a zoo to do it in the US.

You will be ok coming in if flight is on time but you need three hours for departure. Your tour guide should know this as you must clear US customs before going to your gate. You sit in an area of the airport and wait for them to show your gate and then proceed. Duty free show if you have time.

It is a small airport and hard to get lost. Signs are posted everywhere.

I meant shop but it is a show also as everyone wants to sell you their products. We were a bit tipsy last flight. Enjoy.

It sounds as if this may be your first experience at an international airport certainly for Dublin. Be assured that there will be signs indicating where you go for passport control, customs ( generally just a walk through ) where to pick up baggage and directions to other terminals etc. I've not been to Dublin Airport recently but at most airports, zones ( numbered ) are posted. These things often look confusing until you are actually there, and it will likely be a lot clearer once you arrive. Check out bivenci's map. If still confused don't be hesitant about contacting your tour company for more clarification.
