is having a short stay in the hospital this week.
(is this Travel talk? It is in a state other than my own. She would rather be in Italy.)
So I would like to send Get Well Wishes to our dear Bookchick who is a great help to many here on Fodors and I know she will like seeing this when she comes back online.
Please, add your own good wishes~
Feel Better Soon, Bookie!!

BC, I hope that you are back to your usual wonderful self as soon as possible. So many people are pulling for you!
Miss Scarlett, thank you for letting us know how Kathy is doing.
Catch up on your reading, bookchick, and get well soon.
Angels & Demons is a nice (if utterly implausible and somewhat trashy) page-turner set mostly in Rome/Vatican. A good comfort-read, like macaroni & cheese for the brain.
Miss you Bookchick.

Thoughts and prayers, Bookchick!
Adding my best wishes--hope you have a speedy and thorough recovery.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and a trip to Italy. If possible, could you write a trip report, make sure to include the no-so fabulous food in the post.
Get well soon Bookchick!

Bookchick has long been one of my favorite people here and we share a love of Italy. (Coincidentally when my former girlfriend & I went to Europe two years ago, we departed on what turned out to be Bookie's birthday.) As Scarlett said, she's a great help to many people here on Fodors and is also, IMO, a very kindhearted woman with a strong spirit that will help her get through any curveballs that life throws her way.
Thanks for the good news, Jody; I hope she continues to do fine!
Best wishes, Booky!
Bookchick:
Wishing you a future filled with happiness and good health!
Byrd
BC I wish you the very best and a speedy recovery. You were so helpfull with my ramp to my house. I wish you soon to be traveling to Rome and other places.
Hi Al, I hope you got my card.
Good Wishes to you Bookchick-hope you are back on a plane soon
.
Sue
According to Fodors, there are more than 30,000 registered posters here. If any of you are sick or in the hospital, I wish you a speedy recovery
I was so glad to get the message that you're doing well after the surgery, and I'm looking forward to having you around again.
Hi Bookchick,
thanks in part to your inspirations we will be returning to Roma on Good Friday. I'll be tossing a coin in Trevi for your swift return.
Capo: Don't mean to detract from all the get well wishes, but couldn't help notice in your post that you said "former girlfriend." Not that it's any of my business, but you seemed to be a very special couple that enjoyed one another's company and love of travel immensely. I'm sorry to hear that you are no longer together.
Gio,you are reflecting my thoughts. I remember all capo's romantic posts.
This will happily intrigue Bookchick too, tho I suspect she knows before us.
Get well my friend, we ALL miss you.
Dear Bookchick, You are one of the people that makes this board so much fun. I wish you a speedy recovery and many happy travel days. Anne
Bookchick:
Glad that you are on the mend!
My Prayers,
Oaktown Traveler
Sending "get well" thoughts your way.
Best Wishes,get well soon.
Judy
Bookie, do post as soon as you can and let us know how you feel
My best wishes to you too, Bookchick, for a speedy recovery! Use your current "down time" to enumerate all the places in Italy you need to see/experience again as soon as possible. That should fill you with positive energy and colorful images!
Bookchick,
I hope that you'll soon be posting again- about another trip to Italy!
I wish you all the best.
"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers." - Charles W. Eliot
The same can be said of our "Bookchick".
Godspeed with Recovery!
D_T
Sending best wishes and hopes that you are able to spend this time catching up on some great books (travel books included, of course.)
Keeping this at the top for BC!
Bookchick, may your recovery be quick, and may all your travel dreams all become reality!
Oh, BC! Hope all is going well and that you'll be back at your computer soon. I miss you!
Carissima Bookchick. Un boca a'lupo! Abracco forte!
Thank you very much Karen for hosting the GTG. I enjoyed seeing some old faces and meeting new ones.
Forry, cross posted to the wrong thread.
My Dear Friends,
Thank you all so very much for the prayers and good wishes! What a delightful post for me!
I was discharged from the hospital yesterday. Surgery went very well with minimal blood loss. I have a return visit to the surgeon's office Tuesday for removal of staples. So far, so good!
I will be recuperating at home for some time, as the surgeon wrote me "off work" and out of the office until April 26th. I figure by that time, in my part of America, it really will be spring, and I'll want to be anywhere BUT inside my house! Naturally I have stockpiled a good many books to read during my convalescence.
The stay in the hospital was not too bad, and I have to say that IV sedation paired with a spinal anesthesia is a LOT easier on the body than general anesthesia, IMO.
Thanks again. I'm a little weak and walking a lot more slowly, but truly not in too much discomfort at all. And as I get stronger, I promise, I will be here more often.
Best Wishes to All,
BC
Just coming back home after some time in Fla. Glad to hear you're out of the hospital. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Glad you are home again. I agree with you about spinal anesthesia being easier than general. Ten years ago I had a hysterectomy with spinal anesthesia, and it was much more comfortable to recover from.
Enjoy all the books and get lots of rest. Then you will soon be ready for a trip this summer!
I am concentrating hard on recovering from a back injury so I can travel again. I actually hurt my back from too much walking on the cobblestones of Rome!
Ahhh, now things are getting back to normal!

Be a good patient BC and let someone else wait on you and take care of you!
Send me book reports
BIGHUG
I spoke to her today. She sounded real good and is in good spirits.
Glad that you are back home BC..Take care" e non ti scordare di noi.."
Ciao.
Kismet.
Welcome back, dear Bookie
Bookchick, I've always enjoyed your posts. Glad to hear you're on the mend!
good news to hear.
good times in the future
and lots more loving to do
and the mandala for it all for you.
Hi Bookchick--hope u continue to feel better and are getting stronger each day. Everyone raves about your Italy reports--but I loved your last Paris report--u did a great job on that.
Best of health to u and hope your off on another trip soon.
Take care,
Robyn France
Glad to hear your on the mend...take good care of yourself and read LOTS of books
Judy
Whoops..I think you have BOOKchick and BEATchick mixed up!!
that always happens, Book LOVES Italy
Beat LOVES Paris.
Is very easy to get confused..Their ID is so much similar..
I suggest that one of these dear ladies change ID....
Do all the Donalds in the world think that about the Ronalds? Would a brother and sister named Allen and Ellen be anathema? To say nothing of how many times Chris marries Chris!
I know both of them and if you did you would NEVER suggest a change! One is a BEAT and one a BOOK and never will they be mixed in my mind! They have been that since they both started on Fodor's...we need to keep then straight not for them to change their nemaes!
NAMES!
Please forgive--I love the posts by both Beatchick and Bookchick--just had a little lapse. Bookchick--get well soon.
Take care,
Robyn France
My goodness, did not means to cause such a furor..considering that so many people keep getting confused by their IDs, I just suggested it...
By all means keep your names dear ladies..
Bookchick, I hope that you are feeling much better now..
So many people care about YOU..
Ciao,
Kismet
Dear Folks,
Thanks so much again for all your good wishes! My surgery was exactly 1 month ago today, and I am mending exactly on schedule according to my surgeon. A very mild degree of discomfort exists, but should dissipate by mid-April. My "lifting no more than 5 lbs." restriction is the one I find most troublesome, and most likely to keep me from traveling very soon!
Kismet, & RobynFrance, I suspect there may always be some confusion between Mary (Beat Chick) and myself. However, we did develop our screen names independently of each other, and I think we're both very aware of when folks make the honest mistake of getting one of us confused with the other, and certainly take no offense. One of these fine days I will go to Paris and write a review of my trip, and that should REALLY confuse everyone here, myself included, LOL!!!
DT, what a lovely thing to have written! Thank you!
Oaktown Traveler, my dear, what a very long time it's been since we've seen you around here! And we have missed you, I can say, on more occasions than I can remember, folks have asked Liz B. about you!
Mr. Go, thanks for the book rec, I have a copy now and will be reading it prior to my return to my office. Wow, this plot looks involved, to say the least!
And to each of you, my sincere thanks again for thinking of me, and including my health and welfare in your prayers. True Fodorites are indeed like an extended family, and I am so happy to know that we do indeed look out for one another, care about each other's welfare, and miss each other when someone who's often here is "gone", even temporarily.
Best Wishes to All,
BC
Ciao carissima Bookchick, was great to hear from you again..
Take care,
kismet
Dearling~ Some people are missed when gone for just a day.
Listen to the doctor and take a hint from Scarlett, let other people do the work for you for a while, you will be doing all yourself soon enough!
Bighugs,
Bookchick,
I was away in Hawaii when this email came up and just saw it today. I am so glad to hear that you are doing well. You were a tremendous re-assurance to me for my first trip to Italy last year. You always conduct yourself with such class -- I miss reading your postings.
Take care.
dear bookchick,
Oh, girl...I am so pleased to see you back and hope you are doing well. I have not been posting much lately but have been lurkings and it is great to hear your keys again.
Take it easy and hope you are on the mend. I have every confidence that you will finally make it to paris and look forward to your review!
I am thankful that you are on the mend!
erinb
Bookie, bella, I'm so happy you're doing well!!! I'm happy that the surgery was a success and that you're still posting!
For some reason when Fodor's instituted registration I was not able to use the MaryC designation any longer. I never meant to cause any confusion. And Bookchick is one of my long-time faves on the forum.

Kismetchimera, I agree with you. I did the biggest disservice when I picked Beatchick as an on-screen name here. But I've been Beatchick from the 1st moment I hit the web (back in '96). But I originally started posting HERE as MaryC, then took the nom de plume of Beatchick to exhibit my more tongue-in-cheek self.
La Bookchick, what will happen when I finally get to Rome & post a report? Utter pandemonium, to be sure. Oy vey!! I can't WAIT to read a Paris report from ya.
And to beat it all, BC & I both have Irish surnames!!
Anyway, Bookchick, lots of love & prayers continue for you!!!!!!!!!!
