We will be in Norway next week and will try to squeeze in as much beautiful scenery as possible. We plan to travel by train from Oslo to Myrdal and Flam on Wed. We'd like to do a glacier walk, so I'd like to get from Flam to Sogndal Wed. evening. What would be the evening boat or bus options for that? Thurs. we would do the Glacier Bus and return to Sogndal. Friday we would travel from Sogndal to Bergen, probably by boat. Should we make a detour back to Gudvangen to see that fjord? I picked Sogndal because it looked like a good place to get on the Glacier Bus. Suggestions that fit the Wed. to Fri. time frame would be appreciated.

I thought the Naerofjord was stunning and would not miss it. The boat ride on the fast ferry to Bergen from Balestrand was a disappointment since you had to stay inside and the scenery was not as spectacular as earlier.

Thanks for your response. Have you done the train ride to Bergen? If so, would you recommend that instead of the fast ferry?

The train ride from Voss to Bergen in not particularly scenic.

i agree with Marija -naeroyford is gorgeous
it is narrow and twisty so there are lots of angles to capture

flam is on the aurland fjord - we stayed in an apartment right on the waters edge for three nights and it was wonderful to be having our meals looking out over the fjord when everyone had gone home

well
after the spectacular scenery of geiranger, the road to lom, the route to oye and then the mountain rd route 13 to balestrand the train up to myrdal was just ok
there was a cheesy presentation of some waterfall nymph whipping round the rocks to some recorded music but otherwise it was a bit of the same ole same ole
we got off at berkvamto wlak 11km back to flam
again it was fine but not as spectacular as the areas wed come from
an easy walk back - long though
past a couple of waterfalls and rapids but you see that kind of thing everywhere
i think you can hire bikes from flam and probably take them up on the train and ride back but i didnt know what the track down would be like
the walk did us good lol
11km is a long way when youre hungry and your bladder starts stretching at the seams

we found a glacier beyond fjaerland - thats north-west of flam i think ( tis was us coming down from geiranger a couple of days before )
got the car ferry from balestrand up to fjaerland ( bought a book at the second hand bookstore- one that i had been looking for at home lol)
saw the jostadalen glacier from the ferry
and drove up to see supphellebreen glacier
what a pretty place
theres another one- boyabreen glacier but we had to get to the car ferry at kaupanger in the afternoon which took us to gudvagen so we could drive to flam

we decided against going to bergen
Marija here had warned us that the journey wasnt all that interesting and frankly we just wanted to stay put for a few days - hence the three day break in flam
dont miss going to bergen
wed been to alesund and molde and were going to oslo and we really do prefer smaller towns
no regrets about that decision- you cant miss what you havent seen lol
you will love the areas around sogndal
ask the locals for their picks

as for gudvagen itself id not stay overly long but that fjord is a must

where are you staying in oslo by the way

Tower here put us onto the gabelhus and we have him to thank for the most wonderful stay - breakfast and dinner included with the stay
thats a bargain! really lovely place

We are going to visit Oslo in August.
What are the most interesting "must see" places to visit?

City Hall, the skansen, the Vking ship, the Kon-Tiki museum (the last three all within walking distance of each other), and Fogner (sp?) Park.
