Hi,
We are 3 adults and 2 teenagers looking at a few Barcelona apartments for later this summer. While we have a handle on the pros and cons of the apartments themselves, we are looking for your opinions of the neighborhoods these are in.
Several are in Barri Gotic, on what looks like Carrer dels Escudellers, about a block from Placa Reial (offered through Apartment Barcelona). Another is in the Left Eixample, near Carrer de Muntaner and Carrer del Rosello (offered through Flipkey).
We're OK with some noise, but just trying to avoid the sketchier blocks as far as getting home late. Thanks for any input on these areas, as well as any other recommendations. Thanks!
Opinions on Barcelona apartment locations?

Personally, I find the area in the Barri Gotic between Pl. Reial and the harbor slightly less comfortable at night than that area in Eixample you mentioned. Or most of the Born district.
Nothing really frightening but not my first choice.
But it sure is a very central location and perfect for sightseeing.
The Eixample apartment is in a very fine location with regard to safety. And when the apartment has its rooms towards the inner courtyard noise should not be an issue at all. If the rooms faced Muntaner.. well, that would give you some noise at it that street gets a good deal of traffic.
With regard to proximity to sights and central locations like Pl Catalunya it is slightly off the "perfect" (and usually more expensive) perfect location on Rambles de Catalunya or Balmes.
But, again, not in a dramatic way! You'd still live very much in the city.
As the nearest metro is L5 (which does not get you to any relevant tourist destination but Sants station and Sagrada Familia) you will probably have to rely on buses (going up/down Muntaner and neighboring Aribau).
So it's a slightly different feeling as if you stayed either closer to Gran Via/Pg de Gracia or in the Born. But some actually like that as you will have more "normal" restaurants and cafes and shops in walking distance. If you followed Rosello in the NE direction towards Pg de Gracia you'd be in a very upscale neighborhood once you got to Balmes.
If I had to choose only between the two, the Eixample location would win (for me, not necessarily for you) with an A minus while the Barri Gotic location would get only a C from me.
That was a very nice description of each area. Thanks!
