Opinion on honeymoon Itinerary

Recently found this site and I'm thrilled with all the great ideas and opinions.
I thought I would talk about my honeymoon (June 20-July 6) plans and see what you think.
Positano (6 nights)Le Sirenuse
Rome (3 nights)Albergo del Senato
Umbria/Spoleto (3 nights)Hotel San Luca
Siena (3 nights)Locanda Dell'Amorosa

Do you think I should spend less time in Positano? and add a night to Rome. Also, should I skip Spoleto and spend 6 nights in Siena.

Any opinions welcome. Thanks in advance!

Rothenburg OT is Hands Down the most beautiful medievil walled city I have been to. I will be turning again on my 10th Anniversary this year. I have been to the top of the tower in the Market Platz with a view of the whole town. And the Criminal Museum is a must. They also have a Night Walking Tour. You will love it and always go back. Enjoy... Cayte

P.S. Don't forget the Castle Garden.

Ok, I don't know what the previous replier is referring to because the concept of "market platz" in Italy left with the Germans in 1944.

Here's the question: what are you there for? There's not that much to do in Amalfi (Positano). There's also no reason to spend 6 nights in relatively small Tuscan/Umbrian towns unless you have friends there. Siena is nice, but you don't need more than a night or two. Spoleto isn't even up there with Perugia or Assisi. And three nights in Rome is entirely too few unless you're just going there to say you've been.

Although the only places I've been to on your list are Siena and Rome, your trip sounds heavenly to me.

For sightseeing reasons, I would take at least one day away from P and add it on to Rome. Maybe two days, if you like cities.
From Siena are you planning on daytripping to other towns in Tuscany, wineries, etc? If you add on a day there, you could daytrip to Florence.

Congratulations on the wedding.

I'm jealous of your trip. To the question about Positano, it really depends on what you are looking for at that point in your trip. If you are looking for a slow, leisurely, and romantic start to your trip, 6 days works. Personally, I think coming off of the wedding planning, the wedding, traveling to Italy, it is a great luxury to take time to relax in a beautiful place before starting the real sightseeing portion of your trip. There are a couple of great day trips from Positano, so that leaves you with 3 or 4 down days to relax by the pool, sleep late etc.

On the other hand, if you are looking to sightsee every day, then 6 days in Positano is too long.

Where are you flying into and out of? That makes a difference in how you plan the days of your trip.

We went to Italy last September and we flew into and out of Rome. Because of that, we divided up our trip like this: first four nights in Rome; second four nights in Sorrento; third four nights in Umbria outside of Perugia, and last night in Rome (early flight home). You have two extra nights to play with than we did, lucky you!

If you want to simply relax after your wedding, six nights in Positano would be wonderful! If you got antsy, you could alternate lazy beach and water days with sightseeing. From Positano, you could easily visit Ravello, Amalfi, Capri, and Sorrento. The hiking is pretty marvelous in that area. Think romantic picnic lunches and spectacular scenery.

If anything, I'd spend the next five nights in Rome (it will fly by) and the remaining four in Siena. You could easily make a day trip to Spoleto from your Siena base, if you want to see what the town is like. Siena is a more centrally located city for seeing the sights than is Spoleto.

I think it would be tiring to stay in four different hotels. That's what we did, and I wouldn't do it again. Too much packing and unpacking is boring~!

Just about perfect--I am green with envy and want to go with you.

IMHO, I would have more time in Tuscany and less at Positano.

Heres what I would do with your trip

4-5 nights Positano
2-3 nights Capri ( there was a fantastic article in the Chicago Tribune about STAYING in capri, much better than actually daytripping, peacefull and romantic - perfect for honeymoon)
3-4 nights Rome ( rome might burn you out on a honeymoon!!)
Skip Umbria this time
4-5 nights in Siena(rent a car - tuscany has many many things to see and do, vinyards, mid-evil villages, hiking, natral spas, florence musemums and shopping etc )

HI,
Here is more advise. I stayed on the Amalfi coast for 7 days and every day was full. We took day trips to Pompei, Amalfi, Ravello, Capri, and Sorrento. There are great walking trails in the hills.I was never bored. But, I think another night in Rome is best. I assume you will take day trips in Tuscany and Umbria. It sounds like heaven.

Thank you to everyone for the great advice. Your comments only make me that much more excited!
To answer some of your questions..
We're leaving from Boston and flying in and out of Rome. We decided to make the trek to Positano to enjoy the sea at the start of the honeymoon.
After reading the comments, I think we will add a night to Rome, skip Spoleto and head to Tuscany for the 6 nights.
I did contact the hotel in Tuscany and they can accomodate us for 2 of the 3 additional days I inquired about. My thought is that we could take the train into Florence for a night and then head back to the hotel for the remainder of our stay. If anyone has a recommendation for a hotel in Florence that would be great

Thanks Again..and happy traveling.

if you spend 6 nights in Tuscany do not spend them all in Siena. 3 nights there and explore N, then 3nights at one place in South of there, maybe Montepulciano? we didn't know anyone in small towns and those were the favorite part of our honeymoon last summer! Siena got way too crowded for me during the day so hopefully youll be daytripping out of there We stayed in a little farmhouse with a pool an dit's own vineyard for 4 nights and used taht as our homebase. It's yoru honeymoon, you dont need to be in a larger town (or at least we didnt').
Congrats!

One of my best friends stayed at Locanda dell Amarosa for her honeymoon, and she absolutely adored it! It is not right in Siena, but I believe more like 20-30 minutes outside of the city. It sounds like a good place to base yourself in Tuscany.
