One Week In The South Of France (Not Riviera) In August With Kids

Jump to last reply

My family (me, wife girls ages 10 and 8) are spending part of our vacation this summer in France. We will be in Paris for the last week in July, and then have a week open before we fly out of Nice. My wife has expressed interest in visiting the Dordogne area and nearby environs (especially Rocamadour) as well as a little of Provence. I am thinking of taking a train to Angouleme and then renting a car for the week; returning it at the airport in Nice. I don't want to sleep in a different place every night, but I realize that we will need to change lodging at least once or twice. I would like to include a mix of culture/history and a couple of low key days for relaxing. Our family is not interested in spending time at the Riviera beaches. I would appreciate suggestions / advice on an itinerary and logistics for the week. I am also willing to consider alternate itineraries between Paris and Nice (for example, Burgundy) but I would need good rationale to convince my wife.
