You can take a boat ride on the lake in Lucerne. It has a few museums or sites of historic interest, but they wouldn't appeal to a 3 yr old, that's for sure.

I thought the Bourbaki panorama was very interesting and not something you can find elsewhere very much.

Spend 3 days in Lucerne and 3 days in the Jungfrau Region - the best part of the B O.

Take the Golden Pass scenic train between Lucerne and Interlaken and then head to the hills and stay in a small mountain village like Wengen - great for families.

anyway for tons of great info for planning a Swiss train trip check out www.budgeteuropetravel.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.swisstravelsystem.com.

You may find a Swiss Pass for 8 consecutive days a great deal - good on trains, lake boats, city transports and gives free entry to 470+ museums and sights.

PalenQ- Do u think going to Rhine falls from directly basel is a good idea ??
About wengen , is it easy to make day trips from there ?? I have heard we will hv to hv many changes.. Is it better than lauterbrunnen

Yes , we are planning to take swiss pass. N about golden pass train , i have heard that after interlaken towards montreaux its more beautiful. Does it sound good to go further N spend a day somewhere ?

N yes i hv not yet booked the hotels . Do u think I should do that earliest or shall i wait for better deals as there will be lesser tourists then , which i think .

Sorry i hv so many questions as the trip dates is reaching n i hv not yet planned anything m so tensed.

To me no -not more but a different type of beauty - take both if convenient.

Rhine Falls - I would skip on limited time -nice but much more awesome places for your limited time - to me the Jungfrau Region is the absolute highlight of Switzerland for first time travelers.

Well yes and no - Wengen is 20 minutes about from Lauterbrunnen by train - but if you are going to Jungfraujoch from Lauterbrunnen you have to go thru Wengen!

If you want to do the famous and easy and awesome Ridge Walk from The Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg then you take a cable car from Wengen to Mannlichen and then from KS train back down to Wengen - Lauterbrunnen would be longer each way.

But if going down to Interlaken or Grindelwald Lauterbrunnen is quicker by train so it depends.

Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald are busy towns even at that time of year and some like this aspect - more stores, more restaurants, more pubs - Wengen is car-free and smaller and quieter though it has some amenities as well.

But Wengen at that time of year is also at a higher altitude than Lauterbrunnen so may be colder and even icy on occasion.

so there are various factors to that question - Lauterbrunnen has more accommodations and I believe a bit cheaper if that is key.

The views from Wengen are spectacular - from Lauterbrunnen as it sits in a deep canyon less so but still nice but not the sweeping panoramas.

That period is approaching off-season so I think no rush to book hotels but if you find one in your price range do it.

As for the GP - Interlaken to Montreux - yes lovely but the trains you will take in the Jungfrau Region are just as or more awesome scenery wise- I'd concentrate your time in Lucerne and Interlaken areas- 7 days ain't much and moving around with a young child - such as that fairly long Interlaken to Montreux GP train may not be....whatever.

Less can be more sometimes.

Thank u so much PalenQ for the valuable time u give to make our trips unforgettable. I really appreciate this .

What do u experts suggest me to visit around lucerne and in jungfrau region as priority. So that i do not any imp thing , I don't think i will be able to go back there in a long time , so ....

Is there anything i should do other than these two regions , considering baby with us...

I'd concentrate on those two regions in that limited time even without a 3-yr old in tow.

Lucerne - be sure to take a boat trip on the lake - like to Fluelen at the fjord-like tip of the lake and take the train back from there. Get off at some lakeside town for lunch or at Vitznau to take the mountain train up Mt Rigi - not so high but a celebrated viewpoint.

You mention Mt Pilatus and that is a real thrill - take a train or boat to Alpnachstad and then the spine-tingling train up to the summit - return down the other side by cable car to Krens in suburban Lucerne for buses back to the town center.

Those are two things I would do and a Swiss Pass would cover all trains, buses and boats in full.

Lucerne itself is small and has a few main sights like the Mesdag Panorama (sp?) but otherwise little reason to linger much in the city - of course walk over the covered wooden bridges that are the iconic symbol of Lucerne.

3 days would be fine there I think- then one day traveling via Golden Pass or local train via the Brunig Pass to Interlaken-Ost station and then trains from there to Grindelwald, Wengen or Lauterbrunnen.

The Jungfrau Region has many more varied things to chose from so it is harder to pick and chose- the train to the Jungfraujoch, Europe's highest train station and a Top of the World look and feeling with snow and ice abounding around - walk to the tip of a glacier and thru ice caves, etc. You can get train connections there from Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Wengen. That's no doubt the top #1 thing most folks do but there are many other nice things too.
