We want to travel by car and train through the English countryside in mid August. Arriving Sunday and leaving the next Saturday. We prefer to visit quaint, off the beaten path towns and prefer to stay in nice B & Bs. Have heard about canal boat rides and would love to do that. Our main interest is to see historical sights in these small towns. Would probably prefer to keep the trip in the mid/southern part of England. Also would like suggestions for local non-touristy restaurants. Would appreciate any itinerary ideas.
