One thing you wish you would have done in Paris or London
Aside from seeing standard tourist sites, what is something in retrospect you really regret NOT doing and wish you'd taken time for?

Thanks, flpab. I'm heading out in a couple weeks and want to be open to things I might not have considered. Will be going to Borough Market. The Marmottan looks lovely--love impressionism.
Thanks in advance to other posters. I'll be looking up all answers!

I wish I'd bought a flat in Paris along with a house in the Dordogne. The exchange rate was almost 8 francs to the dollar at the time, and I might have bought a small apartment for what I'd have to pay for a closet or an entry hall today. Besides that, the only thing I can think of is, in all the times I've been there, I've never explored the Canal St-Martin.

Stcirq, it must have been in the 80s? The 14 months I spent in France the rate was about what you mentioned...30 years ago. Gulping right now every time I book something and get the exchange rate. And feeling bummed that I won't get to show my hub the beautiful Dordogne. Will look up Canal St Martin.

Paris - Eat at Le Grand Vefour.
I peaked thought the windows when I was 19 years old and was enchanted. Each subsequent trip I have not eaten there for one reason or another.... promising myself that next time I would eat there for sure. My husband now suggests that we go to Paris with this meal as our reason for the trip! I hope we do it someday.

Actually, it was the early 90s, though I do remember in the 80s when there were 10 francs to the dollar - those were good times! It was actually a bit of an anomaly - the exchange rate had been 5-6 francs to the dollar - the stars just aligned and on the date I made the promesse de vente and put down my deposit and secured the rate, it was something like 7.8 francs to the dollar. It went back down shortly after.

Still haven't gotten to everything in Paris after 5 trips...I agree Musee Marmottan took me far too long to get to.
St Denis took us a few trips to get to, as well, but also very worth while.
What I still regret not doing is Giverny (day trip). Lately we have been going over Thanksgiving or Christmas, so it hasn't been an option but the next time I am there between March and October---I am heading to Giverny.
London---The British Museum. It was right by where I stayed and I wasn't smart enough to go! What was I thinking?

I've done all those things except eating at the Grand Vefour.
I am going to Paris alone this fall and want to explore Belleville, the area between the Parc Andre Citroen and the centre of the 15th, and the Parc de la Villette. I also want to circumnavigate the city by Tram.
I have another idea for Paris, but I have to make sure my health is up to it.
In London, I want to get off the train in one of those places you always pass through like Clapham Junction and walk around. I have never heard a concert at Wigmore Hall. I did go to Elephant and Castle and to Golders Green a few years ago for a walkabout.
I've never been to Durham Cathedral, if we can go outside London.
I've pretty much lost interest in stately homes unless thy have huge historical associations or are architecturally really interesting. That said, I think one can visit Number One, London, and I would.

I have toured Opera Garnier and very much enjoyed it. I missed a Dior exhibit at the Grand Palais. I regret that. I think it pays to learn of special exhibits in advance of a trip (we would have likely needed to buy tickets before our trip). I've caught two exhibits at the Grand Palais (Chagall and an Egyptian exhibit from an underwater discovery) that were both wonderful.
