I'm flying from Washington, DC to Milan Malpensa, and plan to overnight there before going on to Mantova by train the next day. Any suggestions about a place to stay? I thought about the Glam because it's close to the train station but it's also far from the airport where I will be arriving. Also told it's not in a great area. Thanks.

If you are going by train to Mantova the day after you arrive in Milan, wont you have to get to the train station for that? If so stayng near the Milan train station makes sense. We stayed at the Hotel Bernina which is 5 minute walk to the train station. It was a nice hotel and reasonably priced. Love Mantova-have fun!

Another alternative would be to go to Como and take the train from Como to Mantova. Does anyone have experience with that?

Oceanroad - there is no direct train from Como.

There are two alternatives - the direct regional train from Milano Centrale or the fast train to Verona and then the local train to Mantova.
